Setup Events

Sunny
Total Time = 1h 04m 15s
Overall Rank = 3/144
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 1/
Pre-race routine:

Road my bike a mile or so from the car to the TA.
1 Powerbar 60min before the start
1 Roctane 10min before start
Event warmup:

No real warmup, just swam a few meters to get wet and used to the water.
Swim
  • 10m 34s
  • 750 meters
  • 01m 25s / 100 meters
What would you do differently?:

My sighting was a little off and I may have been able to go a little faster had I not veered to the right. The current was stronger further out in the river.
Transition 1
  • 01m 1s
Comments:

I actually sat down to put my socks on. The last 100m of the swim and running (hard) to transition had me at redline.
What would you do differently?:

Not sit down
Bike
  • 31m 8s
  • 12 miles
  • 23.13 mile/hr
Comments:

At the first turn around I was very excited to see only two bikers ahead of me and the ones behind me were not gaining.

Nutrition: Aero-Bottle with GU Brew (140 calories)
What would you do differently?:

Solid bike course, no changes.
Transition 2
  • 00m 23s
Comments:

Solid transition, however, I probably got out of my shoes a little too early.
What would you do differently?:

I haven't been doiong the 'riding on top of shoes thing' for too long so this race and the last one I probably got out of my shoes a little sooner than needed.
Run
  • 21m
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 45s  min/mile
Comments:

The run had 1 drink station that was passed twice on the run.
What would you do differently?:

Not much I could do differently on this one, despite no HR monitor, I think I was in my LT and redline area for the whole run.
Post race
Warm down:

2 mile cooldown run on the road and in the shade. The shaded run where I cooled down was significantly cooler/breezier than the run course through the woods...but less scenic.

Pretty cool Mason Jar glass as an award.

Event comments:

The race director promised everyone at the race that they will do better with the course markings next year to ensure no one gets lost.

I would do this one again.

The current assisted swim definitely halpe me out. Despite the swim being wetsuit legal, I did the same as most people went without the wetsuit. I'm sure it saved me time in T1 anyway.

Everyone with a Garmin on their wrist said the run course was more like 3.3 or 3.4. This made me feel pretty good as 21min was a little slower than I had planned for this run. Fastest Run Time out of the whole race!
Course: Mostly trail along the Cooper River on Daniel Island. Mile 1 seemed a little long. While I did not get lost or have a problem with the run, it seemed many runners made a wrong turn or even skipped the second lap on this "out and back with 2 loop" run.
Keeping cool Good Drinking Just right
