Augusta, Georgia
United States
World Triathlon Corporation
72F / 22C
Precipitation
Total Time = 6h 47m 13s
Overall Rank = 2206/2782
Age Group = F35-39
Age Group Rank = 127/157
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:45am with the sound of the shuttle buses outside my window beeping. Only 15 minutes earlier then I planned so no real harm. Put on sunscreen, body glide, the tri suit, grabbed brekkie and my gear and headed up.
Swim
  • 30m 54s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 28s / 100 yards
Comments:

I zig zagged a bit, the river narrows and widens and I should've sited more with the buoys then the river banks. I also didn't push myself too hard. I knew that the swim was with a current so I decided to save my exertion for the other two events.
What would you do differently?:

Site with the buoys more.
Transition 1
  • 05m 21s
Comments:

I ran up the carpeted area on the boat ramp, but had troubles running on the road into transition. It was pretty rough surface and my feet aren't toughed up to that.
Bike
  • 3h 26m 7s
  • 56 miles
  • 16.30 mile/hr
Comments:

I was hoping to get over 17 mph, but I didn't want to ruin my legs for the run--even if the run was flat. So I kept the pace up but not unbearable. I stopped at the first aid station to pour water in my aero bottle. I wanted to rest my feet since they were starting to tingle. Did a bottle grab at the other to stations and kept going. Overall I'm pleased.
What would you do differently?:

Still had some foot pain. Not like I did my first HIM where I was crying in pain for 40 miles. This time it didn't start until the last 3 miles. No real help has been found with the pain as of yet.
Transition 2
  • 04m 19s
Comments:

Walked through transition this time. My feet hurt and I took my bike shoes off and just walked through the soil on socked feet to lessen the pain. Worked well.
Run
  • 2h 40m 32s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 12m 15s  min/mile
Comments:

Sun was out for the first part of my run. It really zapped my energy. I walked a ton the first 5 miles, and the aid stations at the start felt really far apart. Then the clouds came out and the rain started and I felt great! I ran the rest of the way, stopping only to grab water and ice. Oddly enough my first loop time was better then my second. Not sure I buy that, to be honest, that was from the "unofficial" results...
What would you do differently?:

Bring water out of transition with me, so I didn't have to wait so long between the first few stops.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked and jogged around catching my team mates who were still on course.

Event comments:

Loved seeing all the volunteers on the course. There were army folks at many of the road junctures, and police as well. Felt great to be taken care of.

Great race.  I'm with you, I thought my second loop was faster but the official time says no by  long ways.  At least I felt better the second loop.

You did great!
