Reposted from collegehumor.com, with some expansion.  Yes please!!

Fourteen Reasons Why Carl Needs to Die:

Carl, stay in the house.

Seriously, Carl. Stay in the house

Carl, I don’t want to yell but it’s the middle of the zombie apocalypse and we’re going to need you to stay close by.

Okay, buddy. Can you be a good little sheriff and stay put? I don’t know, guard the living room. Yes, okay here’s a special hat and you are officially on duty to protect the couch cushions. Just stay in the house.

Carl, I’d ground you but it seems a bit trite what with the hordes of zombies outside trying to eat our faces.

Remember what happened when another little kid wandered off alone? You were here for that.  Maybe I should have made you shoot your little friend in the head to drive home the point.

It’s great you’re keeping your childish rebellion alive but if one of the bad guys gets you, Daddy is going to have to shoot you in the head.  That's going to kind of ruin my day and your mom might get a bit annoyed.

Please, Carl. Just stay here. I’ll be right back.  Make some lunch. Get back to doing that math homework we inexplicably cared about 4 episodes ago.

I don't like it, but sure, you can learn to shoot.  See?  I'm including you and treating you like an adult and member of the team, but you have GOT to follow directions.

Remember what happened to Dale?  He died because you went wandering off and led a zombie right back here.  Remember how it ate his guts while he was lying there screaming?  Stay in the house.

Here, you can keep the gun that you stole from Daryl, even though you completely failed at killing that walker that you came across (yeah, the one that ate Dale).  Having that gun makes you a part of the farm's defense team, though, so you have stay in the house.

Shane is dead.  But see, if you hadn't come wandering into the barn a while back against my explicit instructions, I would have executed Randall then and there.  With that done, Shane wouldn't have lured me into the woods with the intent of murdering me, forcing me to stab him in self defense.  Yeah, that one's on you too, since you won't stay in the house.

Carl, I’m not screwing around. Please, Carl. Just stay in the house. Do this one thing. Just stay in the house for the next 5 minutes.  STAY IN THE FARKING HOUSE, CARL!!!!

HAS ANYONE SEEN CARL?? HE’S NOT IN THE HOUSE.

I agree and also wouldn't mind seeing bipolar Lori get bit in the face by a zombie either. Is she a huge beatch to Rick or what?

So I always said `If the zombpacalypse ever happens just let all the prisoners out and live in a prison. I mean, it's MADE to keep people in and out. That's its entire purpose for being there. Plus it has a big yard, basketball courts, weight rooms, probably some guns if they weren't all looted, high vantage points and so on and so forth.

Of course you run the risk of 1,000 zombies still being locked in their cells. Which isn't so bad considering they're in their cells. The bad part would be the smell and the non-stop moaning.

Well, you can't really blame them for not having thought of it.  Despite the fact that they've survived this long, that bunch isn't exactly filled with rocket scientists.  I'm liking the show, but that's my major beef with it.

To wit:

- Why did Dale drive a piece of crap 1970's Winnebago that was held together with duct tape and baling wire?  The world is basically empty of people.  They would have passed half a dozen massive RV lots in their travels.  Take your pick.  Hell, their vehicles in the last episode included a 70's era truck and an early 80's Suburban.  No wonder they're low on gas!  Practically any vehicle they pass on the side of the road is going to be more fuel efficient and reliable.

- Speaking of fuel, why don't they have a siphon pump and a bunch of gas cans that they fill up from every single car, truck, or house they pass?  If you're gonna drive a big vehicle, make use of the space!

- Why are they still so low on guns and ammo?  They're wandering around Georgia.  Damn near every rural house they see is going to have at least a shotgun and hunting rifle or two.  Considering how decimated the population is, it's also inconceivable that every gun and sporting goods store could have been cleared out.

So nitpicking about the lack of common sense among the characters aside, something occurred to me that seems to be a major inconsistency.  They dropped the bombshell that they're all infected and that's why Randall and Shane turned after they died.  Something about the virus prevents them from turning while they're alive.  But if I'm remembering correctly, Andrea sat they're and held her sister AS she turned.  She didn't die first.

This group sucks at scavenging and that is the one part of the show I have to dispel believe and just let it be a show. When they left the CVC there were M16's and ammo everywhere but they didn't even grab one. I also thought the same with the cars, the world is yours to take so take it geeze.

But if I'm remembering correctly, Andrea sat they're and held her sister AS she turned.  She didn't die first.

Nope.  She held her until she died and then very quickly turned.

It's only common sense that they're all infected even if they virus isn't airborne.  They do nothing to protect themselves (masks, goggles, gloves, etc.) when melee hacking at walkers and getting blood splattered all over them.

While a prison may seem like an ideal place to hole up (asuming you can clean it out off all infected).  It also holes you up and traps you.  A couple thousand walkers clambering outside the walls and you're stuck.  There aren't secret underground tunnels to alternate exit points.  Once surrounded and overrun, you have to smash your way out with brute force.

I've always thought there's a better option.  In fact, one just a mile away from my house.  Google map these coordinates...  35.55454,-80.958338  Kiser Island on Lake Norman.  You can barricade the main road leading out to the islands.  You can have several layers of barricades in case the outter most one is broached.  Use boats to get to alternate exit points for both fall-back safety zones and to head out for more supplies and ammo.  While power boats are OK, I prefer sailboats because sails don't require gasoline, just wind, which never totally runs out.  The lake is big with lots of landing spots so that you can alternate to prevent bandits/looters and check out the landing for walkers first.  Several sea-planes on the lake as well.  Set up similar defensible and stocked safe houses on other spots on the lake to fall back to if necessary.

Essentially the security of a prison, but with many emergency exit points that a walker isn't going to access because it's on the water.  Movement between safe zones.  If one is overrun, just give it some time and a single "bait person" to draw out the walkers and lead them out of the original zone.  Repair and improve the barricades and you can head back.  (Oh and of course - the lake itself is a source of fresh drinking water and is nearly potable as is.)

I've always liked being on and near the water.  Water is your friend.  Wink

You would still need walls at the water.

They may not drown, but they avoid water and don't walk directly into and under it.  The only zombie movie in which water WASN'T a deterent was 'Land of the Dead'.  For the most part, a deep body of water is an effective barrier.  The only walkers on islands were people there to begin with or if there was a bridge to walk across.

This isn't the movies, this is real life! Do you really want your survival to depend on an impression you got from the movies?

One of those books, maybe Survival Guide or WWZ, touched on underwater zombies. Last thing you want is to wake up one morning and find a sizeable horde has traversed the gulf by bottom walking.

My bug out plans for the zombie apocalypse  include a house boat and the Atchafalaya basin.    Zombies fail in the swamps, as seen on TV.....   Cool

And if you can't feed yourself well on the bounty the Atch supplies, then you don't deserve to survive the "popyclips."

^ If the water is deep enough, or if you anchor up where there is a current, they can't "walk" onto a a boat.  I seriously doubt that they can climb the anchor line.

I just remembered that they said that the walkers do succumb to normal decay.  If the island is remote enough, they would decay before reaching it.  Hawaii is where I'd go during a zombie apocalypse.

You're going to have to contend with a buttload of ornery Cajuns if you do. Might be better off dealing with the zombies.

This isn't the movies, this is real life!

That's actually a great line considering we're talking about zombies.  How does one agree on the "real life' nature and rules of something fictional (for now)?  Zombie, walker, living dead...  What are the rules?

I might think to say that since this thread is about 'The Walking Dead', then all rules relating to ZSG, WWZ, ZCG, Zombieland, etc. are off the table.  No 'sprinters', 'underwater', 'radioactive', 'hyper', 'Nazi', 'brooks', 'Voodoo', or 'Rage'... Just your generic, Romero, zombies... walkers.

In that case, my plan WOULD work.  But then when the real z-apocolypse comes, if I'm wrong, I'll wake up dripping wet and half-eaten.  Wink

Bigfuzzy... regarding what attracts/deters zombies. Remember early in the series when Rick and Glen coated themselves with fresh zombie blood, intestines and feet and hands?? They made it through boat loads of zombies without being sniffed out as human. Good thinkin' on their part but not so sure I'd do the same. At least that early in the apocolypse life - without knowing if the zombie guts would infect me.

But in any case, they don't seem too smart for dead humans and don't seem to see very well either! LOL

Bring on Season 3!

OK, after seeing all the Walking Dead recommendations I finally started watching.  i am watching season 1 on the trainer now.

I'm intentionally not reading this thread so as not to spoil anything, but I was curious if any of the Season 2 episodes are available online?  Or if anybody knows when they'll be coming to netflix?

I've been watching them on Amazon Streaming. It's $1.99 for regular or $2.99 for hi-def, per episode. They have all of Season 2.
