Im confused about the progression of the episode, I dont understand how the writers saw that as a fitting ending. I just dont see what they were implying.

The silencing of the sole remaining voice of reason/sanity/humanity? And that appropriate actions by the youth of our species could have kept that voice alive?

I don't know, I thought the implications of this episode were pretty huge.  I mean the entire show is based on "what would you do at the end of the world?"  I was pretty intrigued the whole time.  There's a big difference between killing a person and killing a zombie.  Up to now they have really taken a communal approach in that we're all together on this and have taken in new people.  Now that they have developed a homestead (or moved in on one).  It's interesting to see the shift in attitude for protection.  They still haven't killed anyone but they haven't adopted him either, so the question of "what are they going to turn into?" still remains.  I know I'm probably in the minority, but I liked this episode.

On a different note, my first reaction to Rick and Lori discussing her sleeping inside was "I wonder how long the rest of the group is going to put up with Rick running the show and special privileges and only caring about his family?"  I'm not saying he shouldn't, but I would think that eventually there might be a subsect break off (probably led by Shane) that would be think that all rick cares about is himself.  He'd sacrifice every single one of us to keep his family safe.  I just think that might be another issue coming up next season or something.  They seem to be leaving it alone for now.

I'm also interested to see what happens to T-dog and Glenn now that Dale is gone.  They were really close.  Think Shane starts to try to recruit them?  Maybe Andrea does for Shane

Well ... that was interesting. Now there's no dissenting voice and it's going to be pure anarchy! I actually think someone else will step up and become that voice. Perhaps the woman whose daughter died? Not that anybody listens to her. The prudent move would be to off the kid and bury his behind in the woods, or use it for zombie bait. I have a feeling bad things are going to happen once he escapes.

All i know is Rick & Lori are not going to win any Zombie Apocalypse Parent of the Year awards.  WTF is Carl just walking around doing WTF he wants this whole episode w/out anyone realizing it? sneak into the barn, steal a gun from Daryl, wander into the woods and almost get killed by a zombie after "playing" with it, sneak back into the barn again....

CARL! YOU ARE GROUNDED! NO TARGET SHOOTING FOR YOU! AND GIMME BACK MY HAT!

I actually found Dale very annoying.  He had become a caricature at this point.  IMO this was the worst episode of the season.

I think Darrell will step up to be the Voice of Reason. Plus, he'll show everyone how to cook up some squirrel once the food supply dwindles.

-- If animals were to become zombie-fied, they'd be in a heap more trouble! Just think...zombie cows, birds.... and where are all the cats and dogs?!?! LOL

Dude, for reals. I was like, "Head on a swivel, Dale!!" because you could have practically written the scene yourself. Distracted by the half-eaten cow, walker sneaks up from behind, bam, now your stomach is ripped in half. If the bodies are decaying, how does the flesh have enough energy to rip open a guy's stomach?

The snippet they showed after the episode made it look like Rick is going to take charge of the Humanitarian side that will be absent without Dale. He said something like, "Dale said the group is broken--let's prove him wrong"

I was hoping for zombie cow too! The show is going down hill rapidly. Still better than most shows, meh

Yeah I was thinking that too.  How would a perfectly normal human have done that let alone a zombie?  Seemed way too far fetched.

I thought the same thing but then I just dismissed it because they wanted a way for Dale to get hurt but be awake for the shot to the face.

It would've been easier, more dramatic (and more realistic) for him to have just gotten bitten.  He's infected, there's nothing anyone can do, he's going to turn, he's the one who was always against suicide and now he has to agree that there's nothing left for him but a bullet to the head.

But the metaphor was actually....  "His voice was silenced."  He was the lone voice crying out against killing the boy and in the end, he couldn't speak.  He could only lie there and accept the fate the others decided for him.  The question was in his eyes - did he acknowledge his fatal wounds and WANT to be put out of his misery or did he want to try and fight to live?

Right, but they could have had the zombie gnaw on his belly a little...

No less far fetched than the ease with which they constantly jam a blade into the walker's skulls. There was a great bit in Zombie, Ohio (a book from the zed perspective, with the protagonist being a zombie who retains awareness of most things), where he tries to get at some brains for the first time and discovers how HARD the human skull is.
