It starts at ... 7:30pm here. PRIMETIME! Of course that means by the time the first pro crosses it'll be about 4am here and I won't be awake to see it. The good news is it'll be on all day Sunday. I won't get to see the pros finish but I can see the age-groupers coming across.

Just curious - I haven't seen anything about a broadcast schedule for this (even on delayed basis). There's usually some 90-minute summary that gets put together and aired but everything on Universal are PAST races and nothing about next weekend's race.

Anybody heard?

It's December 10th this year.

As for live coverage of the race, unfortunately, I will be in a van driving around Southern California following some crazy person on a bicycle. (It's the Furnace Creek 508 that weekend.) But I plan to bring my iPad and I hope to be able to follow some of the coverage during the times I'm not driving.

I have HDMI ports on my laptop and my TV, so could I run it to the TV and record it with a VCR?  I will not be home most of the day.

12:30 start is actually pretty good for the Eastcoast to watch the finish of elites and age groupers.

For some of you with a semi-modern laptop and a HDTV, you can just plug your HDMI cable into your laptop to your HDTV. That is, if you have all the required things (HDMI jack on your laptop,HDMI cable, and a HDTV. Just throwing out the idea.

Do HDMI cables work on Apple computers? Is it the same HDMI cable you use for a Blu Ray player?

HDMI is a standard interface, but it is also encoded with HDCP (High-bandwidth Digitial Content Protection) which allows the originator of the material to determine if you can or cannot record (or store) the material.

... and yes, a HDMI output signal from an Apple will be exactly the same as that of a DVD player, cable box, satellite receiver, etc. etc.
