I would be happy to buy anyones 310... I'm so darn frustrated with standing around for 5 minute for my 305 to get a satalite lock.... ERRRRR!

I don't need the latest gratest. A 310 would be fine. Hopefully they will become plentiful and cheap now.

I did the same thing last weekend.  But... consider that it's been what - 2 or 3 years and Garmin is still releasing firmware updates for the 310xt.

I think I'll pass on the 910xt... they'll be ironing out bugs for awhile yet.

The firmware updates for the 310XT have included a lot of new functionality too.

The compelling thing for me is the barometric pressure altitude info instead of GPS. The swim feature is nice (along with the graphic of someone actually swimming instead of skiing!!).

I've been holding off buying a GPS/HRM watch and have been eyeballing the new Polar RX (great review on dcrainmacker.com) and low and behold, he has a great initial review of the 910xt today!  Once it's released (Garmin website says they are waiting for FCC stamp), then I'll be picking one up.  It's certainly larger than the Polar but the GPS is in the watch, not in a pod.  Plus I have a gazillion watches to wear as a watch (timex, suunto, casio, seiko, citizen, omega...) that it'll be fine as a specific purpose watch, not one to wear every day at work.

This looks pretty sweet and I'm very interested.  But since I just bought a new 405 6 months ago it will be a hard sell with my wife.  And she already has her own 405.

I guess I'll just have to let her know that I'm not getting the 910, and I'll use that money towards my new tri bike.  Laughing

Glad I didn't buy a 310!  I like this design better and the run/walk feature is something I would use a lot.

Sonofa....
I just got my 310 last week and have done ONE workout with it. Just a couple hours ago!  Hopefully my buddy at Garmin can return it and I can pay the difference if any.

I haven't even read all the way through Ray's review, but I am a frequent lap swimmer and that alone sells it to me.  The fact that it is a little smaller and looks more like a regular watch is nice too.

Guess I better not scratch up this little orange guy...

But if you get a new tri bike you will certainly HAVE to get a Power Meter to properly train, and if you have a Power Meter you MUST have a 910xt to measure the power from both pedals independently!

You have no choice, got to get the whole package!

Looks like this is more of ANNOUNCED then released...I'll be looking to get one as soon as they start shipping.  I'll just sell my 310 to cover it.  Of course if that proves to be in days rather than months than we'll see about returning the first one.

I started as a swimmer so I'm pretty pumped about the new functions.

It won't be days. When the edge 800 was RELEASED it still took a while for the FCC to finish their approval process.

Perfect!  I'm 88 days away from getting back to the US and "cashing in" on all tri-IOUs I have from the past few years.

Question:  for those of you who use power, will you use this as your computer or do you use something else?

I have a power meter and use an edge 500 as my bike computer.  DC Rainmaker's review said that this 910xt can do EVERYTHING the edge 500 can, with the exception that it can only display up to 4 data fields...where the edge 500 can display up to 8 at one time.

That being said...I never display more than 6 fields at a time...and I often find that 4 fields is more than enough...especially since you can have multiple pages to scroll through.

You can order one from the Garmin website, but it doesn't say anything about shipping dates.

I too need to check with someone before I buy one. Oh, ok, I just told myself that I was ok to buy it.  Whew, that was close...I never know which way I'll go when I ask myself something.

Tough for me... there is still a lot to like about the Polar and not needing a charge. I take my cell phone with me for tunes so don't see too much of a downsid for a extra small pod. I'll have to let the dust settle and see if I'm in the market later. My 305 is fine for me... but just tired of it's slow pick up.

The 910 really only offers one compelling feature over the 310 IMHO.  That is the pool swim features.

Still, if I didn't have a 310 already (about to go in for a cracked screen no less) I would probably go straight to the 910 just for that feature.

That is what sold me.  It's pretty much going to kill that Finis swim watch (which I thought about getting but thank goodness I didn't) .  I put one on order yesterday.  It's not like I'm going to find this discounted online soon so I had my LBS order it for me (supporting the local business). Their supplier is saying about a month until I get it.

I also plan on using this for capturing and displaying power meter data.  I want the Vector next year but plan on getting a powertap to tide me over the winter.

While the features look great, I'm quite disappointed in the form factor.  Why can't Garmin make the 610 / something that looks nice that's waterproof?
