Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 3:45 AM. Usual breakfast - toast w/pb&j, banana, coffee.
Went to the hotel to meet a friend that was running plus I got free parking!
Event warmup:

Traffic was heavier than I though so we were running a little behind schedule. Got to the event later than I wanted. Did find a spot to do some light jogging for about 15 minutes before the race.
Run
  • 2h 00m 59s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

When the wave started I started out a little too fast but with the help of my new Garmin I was able to bring it down while everyone else sprinted out. I passed a lot of them before we hit mile 1 and they were all walking. Felt I had a great run though.
What would you do differently?:

I went a little heavy on the gels. I used a powerade gel gummy pre race and a gel a t 6 and one at 9. I think I could have done without one of the gels and around mile 11 my stomach got a little upset although not enough to slow me down, if I had to run longer than 13.1 I think it may have become an issue.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and stretched while I waited at the finish for my friend to cross. About 20 minutes.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My longest run to date was 10 miles due to injury setting me back about 4 weeks on my training. Other than than I am very happy with my run.

Event comments:

Full marathon next year? Maybe..

Course: A couple more hills than I thought there would be but it was mostly the onramps to freeways and the bridge which I knew about ahead of time. Other than that, great course, a lot of drink stations and people cheering. The run down the beach path was amazing and I love running that path.
