Subject: Bike Trainer Recommendation?

Hey, I believe my husband is going to earn himself some major points by getting me a bike trainer for Christmas--I just have to let him know what type/model for him to get...

We're not loaded with cash, so what trainer would be ideal in the '$200 and under' range?

Thanks!

Used Kurt Kinetic Road Machine or Cycle Ops Fluid2. Find one of those for the best price you can and buy it.

I've put well over 2000 miles on this one and it works great.   Doesn't get any cheaper:

Since we're on the subject... I checked the local craigslist and saw someone selling one of these:

Anyone have any experience?

I have had nothing but happiness with my $75 mag trainer from nashbar (now a bit more, but same principle. 5 level mag, or similarly equipped fluid).

Inexpensive, quiet, reliable. Ours have been chugging away for years--I ride several days a week, year round, pretty much.

Bought my cyclops fluid 2 trainer last year. I've put on 4500kms so far and no problems so far. I figure if I get at least 3 years of use, it will have been worth. Paid $300 so $100 a year or $8 per month is a good deal for me. Anything beyond and it's a bonus.

I have two of these....they are absolutely fantastic. There is a reason they continue winning Road Bike Review's "Best Of" award year after year.

I can't recommend the Kurt Kinetic enough.  You want to get a good one because if you get a really cheap one you won't use it.  New, you can occasionally find deals around $300 new, so it's a little over your budget but I just did a quick ebay check and there's some used ones out there for $200.  Here's the first one I found with a $200 buy it now.

I like the Kurt Kinetic too. I had a Tacyx flow and returned it for the Kurt. Much more realistic resistance.

Yep, absolutely love mine (as much as one can love an inanimate metal object without being obscene) and wouldn't give it up for anything.  Tough as nails, quiet (I use it in an open upstairs loft area and it doesn't bother my wife down below), and has a very broad range of resistance (from easy spinning to standing up on the pedals hard).  Lifetime warranty doesn't hurt either.
