Subject: Cleaning a wetsuit
I just finished my last race of the season on Sunday. It took place in a lake with a heavy amount of silt. I did my usual post race spray down of my wetsuit, but it still looks pretty nasty on the inside. How do you really clean a wetsuit well? I'm ready to store it for the winter and would like it to be as clean as possible.

Thanks
Pam

Take it into the shower with you.
Use baby shampoo on it
hang it up on the wetsuit hangar on the showerhead while you're at work
that night hang it back up in your closet.

I just take it in the shower with me and give it a good rinse while running my hand over the surface to help remove and gunk.  I turn it inside out to get both surfaces clean.  I then hang to dry and store it flat in my basement.

I bought this as DeSoto recommends it for cleaning wetsuits.

Baby shampoo is a good, readily available option.  I bought some wet suit cleaner at a local dive shop.  I'd imagine that the specific cleaner is the best, but I know a bunch of people just use the baby shampoo as a cheap and easy alternative.

I would recomend wetsuit cleaner from the dive shop (amazon) that has odor killing enzymes included.

I used McNett Wetsuit/Drysuit shampoo after every OWS practice and race about 12 times now.  So far it's been working great!  I'd recommend that but the baby shampoo seems like a more affordable option which I'll try when I run out of McNett. =)

I've never cleaned a wetsuit. Ever.

My surfing suit is 8 years old and my swimming wetsuit is 3 years old. I spray them down with fresh water after every use then hang dry. I hang them inside out first, then turn them right side out after a day and let dry for another day.

They are still funk free.

X2.  Pee sterilizes everything anyway,......right?

LOL

My wife is a dive leader......more certifications than a level III USAT Coach. (I HAD to go there Laughing

I've asked her many times, "what do I do with this suit?"......each time I get, "did you pee in it?" The funny thing is, no matter what I say, her answer is always, "turn it out, hose it off, let it dry, turn it out, hose it off, let it dry."

She's as dumb as we are.

We way over think stuff... Take it in the shower and rinse it off... If ya pee'd in it rinse a little longer... Let dry and store...

Yup, in the shower....over the shower head for each arm and each leg (20 seconds each), turn inside out and repeat.  Hang in the shower to dry.  Easy-peasy, lemon squeezy!   Wink
