Swim
Comments: I was able to swim the whole race without stopping. I took it very slow the first lap, hoping to not have a panic attack (like I had the 3 previous races). Shaved 4 minutes off of my previous time. The course was congested the first lap, then foggy the second lap, making it difficult to see the bouys. What would you do differently?: Pick up the pace sooner. I've been swimming the course about 1 a week for the past month, I've been able to swim under 30 minutes, I was worried about panicing too much. Transition 1
Comments: I didn't wear my tri top under my wetsuit, I felt like it restricted my breathing too much. I had a problem getting the dry shirt on my wet body. Bike
Comments: Had a gel after the first hill both laps, drank a bottle of heed and half a bottle of Gatorade. I probably could have pushed up the hills a bit harder, but I wanted to be cautious. I was only passed by 1 person, though I was at the back of the pack. I passed many of the slower sprint participants. What would you do differently?: Not much, I shaved 7 minutes off of my previous race. Transition 2
Comments: Took my feet out of the shoes helped a bunch to speed up the T2 time. What would you do differently?: I hung my wet suit on the rack, making it difficult to rack my bike. Run
Comments: I tried to keep the pace slower for the first mile by drinking a gatoraide, but quickly decided against it. Turned my garmin screen so I would only see my heart rate. I wanted to slowly build throughout the run. I've been working my running alot the past few months and really wanted to stay under an hour. Had 2 gels, coming out of transition and at mile 3. What would you do differently?: Nothing, improved my time by 5 minutes. Post race
Warm down: Walked for a while, drinking the muscle milk they were handing out at the finish line. What limited your ability to perform faster: The last 3 miles of the run were hot. Poured more water on my body than in my mouth. Probably should have drank more at the beginning of the race. Event comments: I like this race (my third time) because it is close to my home, on a Saturday, and low key. The race started a little late because of fog on the bike course. I was able to race 16 minutes faster than my previous race. In training I did many more open water swims and started running 5-6 days per weeks. Last updated: 2011-10-17 12:00 AM

I had a couple of eggo waffles for breakfast at 5am. Got to the race site at 5:30, set up transition, snacked on some cliff blocks and gatorade. Got body marked and down to the water a little after 7am.
Swam about 300yds total for warm-up. Once back on the beach waiting for the start, kept moving, trying keep the heart rate up.
