I know a few Seattle-area BT'ers are doing one of the Black Diamond races this coming weekend. I just got my email confirmation and it says the volunteer organization that was going to work the races is headed to Louisiana and they're now looking for a new organization and/or friends and family of racers to help out. From the email:

If you have a group that would like to get involved as a fundraiser ($20 per volunteer, per 4 hour shift), please have them call AA Sports office at (503) 531-3140 (volunteer coordinator is Kim Hall). We need approximately 20 volunteers for Friday (11:30am until 8:00pm – 2 shifts); and 30 volunteers Saturday (6:00am until 6:00pm); and 30 volunteers on Sunday (6:00am until 2:00pm).

The email actually had Kim Hall's direct number but it seemed rude to post that on a public message board. If anybody wants to volunteer and can't get through with the number above shoot me a PM and I'll send you her number.

Also, it looks like they've changed the packet pickup and transition setup times for the Sunday races: packet pickup is either Friday from noon to 8pm or Sunday morning and transition setup is Sunday morning (6am to 8:30am) only. This is a bummer, I was looking forward to a more casual race morning on Sunday!

Oh well, at least the weather forecast is looking pretty good! This'll be my first Olympic distance tri and I'm really excited!

Cheers,
Jeff

The wife and I plus a couple of friends are doing the Oly distance.

The double loop swim should be interesting I've never been in a race with that layout before. Plus I've not gone swimming in 4 weeks since IMC... I've also only been running once and have done some spinning classes here and there. This will be more a test of our IMC recovery than anything else.

Yep that water was cold. My wife and her friend traded their Oly Tri race for the 1/2 Marathon. They did not feel like doing the swim.

I flated once, about 2 miles from the bike start... broken glass on the road. I got pretty good at IMC with dealing with tublars and flats (I had three thanks to the carpet tacks on the course...) I think that changing that flat and getting going again cost me about 5 minutes, not bad for a rear tire flat. I did not have a very good run though. I think that my body is still catching up from IMC.
