Subject: whole grain question

ok so i have been reading this book and of course the nutrition chapter comes up, eat fruit, eat veg, eat lean protein and then eat whole grain.  so i go to the store and look at the bread isle, i see a handful of breads saying whole grain. but the real question is how do i know what im looking for.  i mean with the tricky "big buisness" labeling tactics, how do i know which whole grain bread is what i should be eating.

is there an easy way to tell if one loaf is lying?  should i look at the ingrediants?  a little help please.  thanks

Avoid the loaves with long noses

jk... there are a few good tricks- first if it says 100% whole wheat, it has to be, so that's a good place to start.  If something says "wheat" and has only 1-2 grams of fiber it's probably not whole wheat.  There are some nice whole multgrain breads by Ezekiel- the sprouted grain sort, or Genesis is another brand.  The ingredients are a clue too- "wheat" only refers to the type of grain, so if they just have wheat as the first ingredient, it's probably not whole grain.  Hope this helps!

avoid the breads that have soybean oil, monoglycerides or any partially hydrogenated oil - usually these artifical fats are added because they have been processed the grain (more easy to digest) to extend shelf life

Skip the bread and eat more green veg, nuts and seeds.  You'll feel better, get more vitamins and fiber, and even lose some weight (if that's your goal).

Make it easy and just don't eat the bread all together. You'll be doing yourself a favor.
