Great to see all of this excitement! Really pleased there will be some familiar faces on course and some noobs doing it. 23000 runners, DANG! MILF action too.

I told Mrs Brown Dog that this is really Mrs. Slayer's race but I am doing it too. She doesn't listen to me much so she will do what she does which will probably be 930s on a normal day.

I'm just never sure lately where I will be leg-wise and everyone knows I'm a competitive twat so thats why i cant say what will happen on race day. I'm in corral 2. She's in 12. If I go in 12 that means we are running together. If i go in 2, that means I'm feisty and founds some freshness.

Either way, would love to connect for some bevvies post race. Also, will be looking to hang out Saturday night possibly at Jim Sinclair's in Tybee.

Wearing UA heat gear light compression tights, CEP compression socks, probably Zoot shoes, a cold gear NIKE yellow top to stand out, an all3sports ball cap. Look for the yellow and bring it!

Is Jim Sinclair's a bar or is he an actual person who is having people over?

I'm going to defer to the driver (Nat) for our post-race post-shuttle-ending (5pm) plans but will also scope out meet-up locations on Tybee for those of us staying out there.

Count us in for post race meet up.

Question - I thought I saw yesterday that you had to get tickets for the post race concert - something said only 200 left, but I couldn't find anywhere to sign up for them (what I read was to sign up at competitor.com and then I couldn't find it there).  What I found was that the post race concert is free to the public - invite your friends!  Does anyone know if you have to get tickets?  And if so, how?

Our post race plans need to involve Tybee and walking distance or someone coming to pick us up. I don't drink and drive. ..and I plan on drinking. But steph and I will be hanging around after we finish (assuming I don't have a horrible race and take longer than I plan). I think we just have to be on our shuttle by 3 or 3:30 pm to get back to Tybee.

Lisa I can't remember but I think for Country Music marathon they gave us our ticket at packet pick up. I don't know though because I didn't go.  At Savannah, my understanding is that the concert is in the park. The headlining band starts at 10 or 10:30 I think so most marathoners are gonna miss that. I might be misunderstanding--it wouldn''t be the first time.

race day weather as of today: low 49/high 70, sunny. It is getting better!

One week out forecast: 51/75 sunny. Boo. Where are my 40's???

I am really upset that no one else here seems to be freaking out like me. What is wrong with you people? Why the calmness?

What is Jim's Bq time?

I think it stinks that the lowest the pace group goes is 3:30.

I am in corral 2. But I might move back to 3. Trying to assess what is the general goal/race times of the people in 2 vs 3. I don't want to start out with a bunch of people targeting sub 3:20. Not sure if I want to start with sub 3:30 either-- even though that is my goal. But sub 3:40 might be too slow. Argh.

if my legs bounce back, i'd like a sub 3:30 and would be super happy with a 3:20. im in C2 also. Jim's in C1 and he's shooting for 7:0x pace so sub 3:10 I guess. and the reason i am not that nervous is bec frankly i didn't target the race, already got my BQ once and ran Boston in 09, and don't see me PR'ng sub 3:06. however, i dig your excitement and appreciate your weather updates.

We are not going to miss your finish!  Nat will find us the beer.  It is one of her superpowers.

I've been stalking the Tybee restaurant scene for dinner+ and there are several good-looking places for post-race chillaxing and food (seafood, pizza, bar food, etc).  So far, my fave is the Tybee Island Social Club, which appears to have tacos of all kinds (even lamb, phat) and Fat Tire on tap.

Apparently sweet potato fries are the food of the moment in Tybee because everyone has them.

Michelle! I am packing my post race bag like I did for post Boston--make up, new outfit and baby wipes. I will totally take ANYONE up that offers me a post race shower but I am not afraid of the hotel public bathroom sink shower. Steph and I will see you finish.  Then we will all go back together, shower and go eat for proper post race celebratory beverages and food.

Steph I have never heard of the social club. But there is a strip of bars on the public beach in Tybee that is fun. I know a few really good eat place but some are high end. Just depends what we want post race. We are all gonna wear our medals out right? Otherwise I need to think of other post race accerssories.

msmegganann - 2011-10-26 1:32 PM I don't know the course, but I checked out the elevation profile.  Looks like the highest point is 60-ish feet?

It is 62 feet I think. Which isn't much of anything. Usually in the Atlanta area most hills are in the 100-200ft range.

I'm in the Orlando, Florida area and my high points of my regular workouts are in the mid-100s.  After New Orleans, I never thought I'd run another race flatter than Florida.  This is exciting.  I'm slow and I need all the help I can get from the terrain, ha ha!

We're coming in Friday and staying through Monday morning. would like to do more but had to save time off for the upcoming holidaze!

Lisa B - 2011-10-26 12:21 PM

Have you driven the course?  So you know the roads?  Can you tell us how hilly (or not I hope) the race is?

Thx

Hey Lisa, sorry for the lack of response...I haven't been on the site for a several days. I haven't driven the course, but I'm pretty familiar with most of it.  There may be a mild climb or two, but it's going to pretty flat. I'm not that familiar with miles 2-7. I think the most challenging "hills" will be coming back into downtown somewhere around miles 7 or 8, and then running up the on/off ramps to the Truman Parkway. But considering some of the biggest hills are on/off ramps, it's gonna feel flat to pretty much everyone but us locals.

Most of the run will be really pretty, with oaks and spanish moss and all that. I think the part that will be the most challenging will be the Truman Parkway (miles 21.5-24.5ish) because it will feel like running down a freeway, and having to do it during the last 10k will be mentally challenging.

I recommend the Social Club. The tacos and chip/dip combinations are good, and the atmosphere is nice (although it gets really loud if you sit inside - I've always sat outside). It will probably be pretty crowded, but it's a short walk from a number of other restaurants, including the little strip along the beach. If you head down there, I would go with Fannie's (which can also get pretty crowded). I don't think any of the places on Tybee are known for their beer selection, but those two have good food. If you go to Fannie's, get the nachos.

If you'd rather stay on the north end of the island, I'd recommend Hucapoos (pizza and good beer on tap, but hard to get a seat) or North Beach Grill (I haven't been there since they reopened with a new owner last year, but I hear it's a good hang out spot and they have live music).

As far as walking on Tybee, the most you'll have to walk is 3 miles - and that's staying all the way on the North End and walking down to the restaurants on the South End. There will be restaurants within walking distance of wherever you're staying, depending on how long a walk you want to take.

Sorry for the triple posting, but I just got an email from a friend who had some insight into the logistics of the day. I guess Savannah is by far the smallest city that has hosted a RnR marathon, and logistics have been difficult - limited parking, hotels, small airport, etc.

Be aware of this when you're trying to get around town - it may not be all that easy, and give yourself some extra time, especially saturday morning. It's hard enough to find parking downtown on a regular saturday! The whole city has been prepping for a few weeks and it's going to be a top news story all week, so I imagine that most people will be prepared, but it's still going to be interesting.

This also led to the route, which doesn't pass by some of the historic areas that many people expected - it's because everyone else in town still needs to be able to get around. The route that many of us runners would have picked would shut the whole city down (and cut off the islands from being able to get across town).

Still, I think it's going to be a fun and scenic race, and most importantly - flat

Thanks for the insight Beckjon!

Outfit (for recognition purposes, if you see me laying on the side of the freeway):

Hot pink tank

Black running shorts or skirt

Blue zensah compression sleeves (may or may not wear "arm panties" as Nat refers to them)

and just so there is a prayer of being slightly distinguishable.....yellow Rev3 SC visor

Perfect!  Nat, you just need to stay in front of these guys!

Weather report:  From weather underground - low of 54/high humidity in AM, burning off to a high of 70 by 2pm.  Mostly cloudy.  Would prefer 40s, but am hoping that the clouds and decreasing humidity make it OK.

According to the preliminary expo map, the Fleet Feet booth (on your right as you exit the merchandise area) will have the pace group info and will be conveniently located next to the GU booth, where you can stop and say hello and sample the GU.  : )  It looks like a good expo.
