starluckrc - 2011-11-02 11:42 AM I'm in corral 2 and have been training to go sub 3:30.  I'll have a couple of others with me as well with the same goal.

Perfect!  Nat, you just need to stay in front of these guys!

Weather report:  From weather underground - low of 54/high humidity in AM, burning off to a high of 70 by 2pm.  Mostly cloudy.  Would prefer 40s, but am hoping that the clouds and decreasing humidity make it OK.

Ick. I don't like that weather. Weather.com says 50/63. But either way I am sure it is going to be icky and humid. I hate humitidy.

Latest weather report I've heard is overnight low of 47 and daytime high of 63, sunny and breezy.

One other thing to think about is the sand gnats. They can be bad early morning, and are incredibly annoying so you may want to consider bug spray. Once you get running you won't notice them, but standing around beforehand you definitely will if they're out (they were around last night when I ran).

I saw the latest weather. If that holds, should be nice. Thanks for the heads up about bugs!

Good luck to all! Hope you all have an awesome race.

Ok.  I'm making the trip.  Look for a guy cheering wearing a red IM Wisconsin visor and a grey camel back.

Good luck everyone!

Looks like PhatK and Mrs P. ran together - she pipped him at the line to finish in 4:30:05. Way to go, guys!

Steph and Nat PRs at 3:55 and 3:26 respectively. Doug's sister got her first one done. It's a great flat course with excellent support. Doug was the Sherpa for all of us. I hung with the wifey figuring I owed her and she appreciated it. Only drawbacks were crowded roads, wind especially in the 20s on the motorway, and drinks were weird with ice in them on a cool day. Would've like some more gu options as it was only 2 Gu stations and all were caffeinated. Great bling and free 64 mgd beer but I want real beer at end not watery fizz. All in all a great time and will definitely go back! Sorry I don't know everyone's results.

I think that was Nat I saw with the pink sleeves when I came through at 3:28?  Good job staying in front of us and hitting your goal.  I dropped a bottle twice and had to go back for it both times, but other than that I ran strong and only slowed on Truman for a couple of miles in the headwind.

That wasn't me.

I had given my butterfly sleeves to a friend at 15 miles and he carried them for me. I was in an argle purple and green skirt and black tank, black calf compression, blue ball cap and long blond pony tail with rubber bands. I think the clock was 3:27 flat when I finished.Chip was 3:26:29!

Whole race was a blur. I was handing out my spare gus at the end to anyone i think that needed it. And a lot needed them. Only 3 people took them from me though. I kept thinking gu karma was gonna help me... and I guess it did. I certianly had my share of personal, tmi, issues during the race but considering some races I've run--this was a fairly painless marathon. It wasn't the hurt locker I was expecting.

Those miles on the highway of broken dreams were brutal. Hideous. I never walked but I lost a minute and half off my pace there over those 2.5-3 miles. I dropped it after I left the concrete desert but was never able to get back to the sub 7:50's and therefore 3:25 was gone. I actually lost it somewhere between mile 22 and 24. My goal was 3:07xx at 24 and I was at 3:08xx . At mile 21 I was still on pace for sub 3:25. It was okay since my goal was sub 3:28 but sub 3:25 would have been icing, ya know.

Congrats to everyone! I know there were lots of prs and I am glad, after 3 years of not running one, to finally get a nice shiny pr on marathon #15!

It was so GREAT to see you Doug.  I knew you would be out there, but figured I'd never be able to pick you out of the crowd with all the people.  The first time I saw you I did do a double take though, looking for the girls.  I was a little bummed to not see them, they are so much fun.  But you were so encouraging, thanks for cheering for all of us.  It was a fun day.

WOW, it was great to see Doug and Amy out there at mile 7 and then to get some run encouragement at mile 20!  Whew!

It was tough out there on the highway.  People were stopping all over the place.  I was just trying to get back up to my friend Cathy (she did not have to stop at the potty) and Doug plus the beacon of Cathy's socks helped me greatly in this section.

Loved the mermaid cottage, loved Tybee.  Great race!

Some of you may  get a kick out of the announcer http://www2.brightroom.com/email/81839/17183/119192739

You may not know the impact of how you guys compete, train and support each other.  This kid thinks his shirt is the BOMB and the buttercups (and Uncle Doug) are the supreme athletes.  Pat yourselves on the back for your finish and how you do it.

The half course was the best one I have ever run.  Flat and fast for sure.  Actually felt like it was downhill for all but two bumps in the road.

Thought the race was very well done - only negative was the AWFUl traffic trying to get to the expo on Friday.  About 1:30 to go about 10 miles.  I was feeling some road rage for sure - it was a free for all with all the crazy drivers.  Next year I hope they get smart and have some cops out there directing traffic thru all the traffice lights that let no drivers go thru.

I had the best race I have had in years and I was the proud Mama of my 19 yo daughter (and her friend Nick) who did their first half ever.  Great initiation to distance running for them.

Will be back for sure next year.

Congrats to everyone!

They're already saying that they're going to rework the packet pickup. I went first thing Friday morning and there was no line, but I talked to some people who took like 4 hours to get their packet that night.

And the course was actually a little hillier than I expected, but I'm sure it still felt flat for most people. It was the Truman where I fell off my pace too. I hadn't trained as much as I wanted to (we have a new baby), but I was hoping to break 4 hours. I ended up finishing at 4:00:08, which I'm very happy with for a first marathon - but also very frustrated since I know I could have gone 9 seconds faster.

Hope everyone enjoyed Savannah/Tybee and got to see some of the sites that the marathon missed!

We had a great time but I'd like to be a bit more critical of this race.  Not only was getting to the expo a problem but transportation to the start of the race was a mess.  We used the "mandatory" shuttles from the mall to the race start.  We got to the mall before 6am but there were so many people and it was so disorganized that I didn't get to the start line until 8:10 for a race that started at 7:30...not how I wanted to start.  That said, it was better for me than for some, Steve's shuttle dropped him at the race so late that the starting line had been picked up.  Rather than crossing a start mat they took a time stamped picture of his race number to get him started.

I have a couple other minor complaints but these pre race logistics are unacceptable.

I would deem that to be unacceptable as well.  It's a good thing that you guys were only doing the half.  I liked the race but thought the medals could have used some improvement.  The medals themselves were great but the cheap neckbands were disappointing.  A race with 23,000 runners justifies a custom neckband to showcase the "bling".

HOLY COW!  I had no idea that happened.  Completely unacceptable.  I'll bet people were freaking out!!

The buses from Tybee worked great, but we got there at 5 to be sure to get on the first bus after the packet-pickup traffic debacle on Friday.
