My 17 week plan starts today.  This will be my first stand-alone marathon.  My hope is to beat my IM marathon time by an hour.  Should be very doable if I stick to the plan!

I plan on doing the half.  I need a running group to keep me off the couch during the winter.  I hate cold and dark, even if it's Texas' version.

I know many who have done it and enjoyed it. Hilly course if they stick with the one from recent years.

I am registered for the full. I have a question - I am coming from Ohio and I don't know the city at all. On the marathon website, they have a ton of hotels listed and I don't even know where to start.

Any suggestions? I don't mind spending what they are listed for - I just want to stay at a good one - distance wise and runner friendly (aka bagels, bananas in the morning).

I will be running by myself, and my sister will be watching my baby while I run. So, it will be me, my baby (10 mos old next Feb) and my sister in the room.

My sister will have the baby in the stroller during the race to try to see me a couple times - so ease of maneuvering around to a couple spectating spots is a good thing.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

I'm in for the half.  My brother will be in town to do his second half ever.

For hotels:

- The LaQuinta at 11th and San Jacinto is probably a good option.  It's about the same distance from both the start and finish.  The race goes right past it in the first mile and again in the last.  Don't know what their breakfast options are like.

- I wouldn't recommend the Hyatt, since it's about a mile away from the finish and further away from the start.

- The Intercontinental is obviously very close to the finish, but is also probably one of the pricier options out there.

- The Doubletree at 15th and Lavaca is another close-by option, though the race doesn't pass directly by it.

For spectating, it's not easy on this course for someone walking.  Before the race starts, they can walk down to Guadalupe and Cesar Chavez where they can see you pass at mile 2 and again at 8.5.  Then their best bet is just to go back to the finish and wait.

Last note: the designer of this course is a little bit evil.  Be prepared for the very short, but steep hill just before mile 26!

If the course is the same as last year, there is a pretty good sized hill around mile 11-12.  I wouldn't necessarily call this course "flat".  There are a few hills that will get ya.  The one at the end is a doozie!

I just lost the person who was going to shadow me for this to a stress fracture.  I need someone who can run a marathon in two weeks.  Is there anyone who can help me out?  Think completion, not fast.  Check my blog for details or the news article below.

I just finished Rocky this weekend but maybe I can help.  What do you need, just a pacer?  Give me a PM.

What dj isn't saying is that HE was my pacer. I'm not sure I could have done it without him. I'm planning on doing a rr and putting it all down there. Overall, though, not bad, but I don't see a repeat performance in the future. How was everyone else's race?
