Total Time = 6h 30m 37s
Overall Rank = 38/97
Age Group = Clyde
Age Group Rank = 4/5
Pre-race routine:

stretch and warm up swim.. which was very cold.
Swim
  • 47m 40s
  • 1931 meters
  • 02m 28s / 100 meters
Comments:

The swim was brutal. The wind had kicked up a pretty good chop and was blowing with the current. So on the long leg of the swim you were fighting both. Lots of breast stroke for me. I actually enjoyed the swim. It was a serious challenge.
What would you do differently?:

Need to get with a swim coach.. My technique is not great and I know that.
Transition 1
  • 05m 1s
Comments:

took my time to try and warm my feet up and ensure my HR was under control. Took in some Nutrition.
What would you do differently?:

I dont know what I would change.
Bike
  • 3h 09m
  • 56 miles
  • 17.78 mile/hr
Comments:

The wind beat me up and I over exerted on certain stretches. Nutrition and fluid intake was really good. Undercarriage got a little sore from the bumpy road. Even with the wind and the cold I still enjoyed the ride. Back was really tight from the swim, making it difficult to stay in the aero position for any extended time.
What would you do differently?:

maybe a better job of pacing.
Transition 2
  • 02m 40s
Comments:

could have been a little quicker but Feet were frozen.
What would you do differently?:

be a little faster
Run
  • 2h 25m
  • 13.1 miles
  • 11m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

first half was good. Pacing was really good but the cramps really got bad on the second lap. Lower back and left hamstring was cramping. Had to walk a few times.
What would you do differently?:

I dont know..
Post race
Warm down:

stretched in the grass

What limited your ability to perform faster:

This was my first 70.3 and the biggest limiter is my size. The wind didn't help.

Event comments:

This was my first 70.3 but I have done a few races with FS Series and they always put together a great event.

Great job. I was the with you at the end . I felt your pain as you grabbed that hamstring w/ .25 miles to go right after the bridge.

Congratulations!!

I've done quite a few half irons, and this was the very hardest one ever. The stiff winds made the swim and bike brutal. And that makes for an extra hard run! Way to HTFU and hang tough on your very first half ironman!

Sorry I didn't get to meet you!

Those bumps were brutal! I've ridden on cracks and seams plenty, but those seemed like little valleys. The wind made me forget all about him, but I remeber saying to myself after one hard shot while I was down in the aero position that one more of those hits would make me quit. I sat up for that stretch even in the wind. ...and then it started raining.

Great race! Sorry I missed you.
