My wife and I are leaving our kid with grandma and taking going to Aruba next Sunday for 9 days. Anyone have recommendations on can't miss activities or restaurants outside of being lazy on the beach?

I have been 10 times:

Resturants:

Solemare - Italian very good

Buccaneer - good sea food

Driftwood - again just good food -

Saprano's - sing along bar - across the street from Hard Rock

Salt & Peppers - hi rise area - very good one of our favorites

Inquana Joes - downtown - get the famous drink

Funny you should say that.  We were looking online last night and there is a donkey sanctuary.

Hi.  Obviously gleser offers some good info but if you'd like more just go to www.lonelyplanet.com and click on ThornTree then do a search on that page (right hand near the top) on: Aruba, Aruba accommodation or Aruba restaurants.  You should get lots of info.

I spend a fair bit of time in the Thailand, Indonesian and Older Travellers sites.  Mostly friendly and supportive just like BT.

Have a good trip and tell us how you make out when you get back.

I see "aruba" everywhere these days.  My boss is going over christmas with her family.   My husband just sent me some random link.   BT has Aruba.

A sign?

Don't go on the beach with any entitled Dutch kids.  Other than that, have a good time.

If you like snorkeling, definitely take an excursion to the "Antilla", a 400 foot German Freighter that was sunk in World War II by its Captain.

Baby Beach at the southern end of the Island has an artificial reef in shallow water (up to 6 feet deep): TONS of fish in shallow water, so you can stand up anytime.

Also check out the Natural Pools on the windward side of the Island.  We liked DePalm Tours.

Depending on how adventurous you're feeling, we rented a jeep and drove the whole way around the island. There are some cool caves on the windward side as well as a nice little oasis of a restaurant where I got some fantastic whole fried fish.

We went on our honeymoon and the one of the things we did was go on the Kukoo Kunuku bus! http://www.kukookunuku.com/It was a ton of fun and a long night of drinking and bar hopping. It was fun meeting different people.

Just a caution: While snorkeling don't touch or stand on the coral - you'll kill it!  Sorry, I'm old.
