I am in for the HM.  I'm getting over achilles problems, so I am not really ready.  So it is going to be more of a long run than a race.  At least that is the plan.

Anyone else get a phone call from the Marriott Residence Inn Cultural District yesterday saying that they are overbooked and you might get bumped to their sister hotel which is another mile and half to 2 miles further away from the race start??  Yeah, I sure wasn't happy about that seeing as I booked my room on Oct. 17th!!  B.S.  I called them back and got more of a "this is why and we're really sorry" type of speech and I STILL don't know if I will be bumped or not.

No but I am booked there!
Did you reserve directly through Marriott.com or through somewhere else like hotels.com?
I had this happen to me when reserving through hotels.com (for a RACE! It was awful) and I never will again. Always always always book direct through the web site - and sign up for a rewards program as they will give preference to those people I hear.

UGH! I really hope you don't get bumped. Put up a fight!!!

Ugh, seems like the hotel should at least offer a financial incentive to switch to the more distant one!

Yep, John, that confirms that you and Wade are officially part of the crazy crowd, and Jeff's not far behind!  Actually if I come out of this 1/2 healthy, I'm planning to do my first full in mid April (there, I said it).

Asked my hubby yesterday if it would be better for me to be his sherpa or do the 5K with him, and he chose the latter .  So I'm now in for the "challenge".  It's going to be a great weekend!

Regardless of how you booked, you should still be able to sign up for their rewards/preferred customer program, in advance of check-in. Might give you a little leverage.

We got bumped once by a convention hotel in San Antonio. They at least provided a meal and a cab voucher. If you get bumped, this might be of some relief to you. Not the same as an easy walk to the Start/Finish, but better than having to drive and park. Good luck!

Hi Hilde,
I had the same thing happen to me at IMTX last year. I wasn't able to stay in the hotel that I originally booked, but by contacting and work directly with Marriott's Corporate PR department, the manager of the hotel then offered to comp one night of each of the 4 rooms that I had reserved, which was a significant savings.

Hope some of the research that I put into the post above helps some.

I booked through hotels.com and am not a Marriot rewards member.  They are offering a reduced rate at the other hotel and free shuttle service to the race.  Seems they have an international group taking up 30 rooms that just decided to stay an additional 2 weeks, so 30 rooms have now been bumped to the sister hotel.  They made it sound like Marriott Rewards members will have first choice at staying.    I will call again before we leave as I don't want to waste time trying to check in if they have already bumped me, but this is just crap.  Spuphal, thanks for your blog, sounds like the same kind of deal.  I'm sure they don't care who they bump, they'll get their money anyway and of course it comes down to money, right?  I really want to stay at the original because it is the closest hotel to the race start and the 1 mile walk is a perfect little warm up and cool down coming back.  I don't want to walk 3 miles AFTER the race, I'll probably be hobbling, ha ha!  I guess the best I can hope for is that 30 rooms of people VOLUNTEERED to take the other hotel....

I will be there for moral support to watch my brother and all BTers.  I would be happy to transport anyone who needs a ride that morning before/after the race from their hotel.  I work in downtown Fort Worth and know the area very well.

Hope everyone has a great race.

getting close now! Weather looks good. I would expect mid 50's during the race. 10+ degrees cooler than last year's temp.

Now, how about the wind?

I am starting to get the taper - pre race nervous energy. I should be focused on work. nope!

Hopefully the wind won't be as bad as they were saying on Monday and Tuesday, 20-30 mph!  Looks like it's settling down to a great start at 7am!  And, you 26.2 guys will have the South wind at your back on the last leg, if I'm looking at the map/route correctly.

That is good news about the wind. Think that anyone would mind if I pulled out a sail?

Luckily I have lots of experience running in the WIND! Most of my long runs have been in 20mph+ sustained with 30mph+ gusts. Enough to make white caps on the lake I run around.

I'll try to leave it in Kansas though.

My wife and I just picked up our race package today and we plan that in 12.5 hours we will start the journey to our first half-marathon.

All this on my wife's birthday!

We finished in 2:25:01, not bad for our first Half M ever.

Also beat our 3hour target and 2:27 stretch target.
