Subject: Ironman 70.3 FL or Ironman 70.3 Eagleman?

I'm trying to pick a 1/2 for this year.  I need early since as an Oral Surgeon, I get too busy in the summer with wisdom teeth to get in as much training.  I did Patriot last year.  I want to try a bigger race this year.  I live in NYC, so MD is an easy car ride, and Orlando is an easy flight.  I don't want anything with a hilly bike course.

Any thoughts as to which race is better?

Disney is hot as hades - there is a rumor that the course is moving - which would be good since the run sucks azz.  unshaded, uneven, run out of sponges and water....

heard great things about Eagleman - competitive field, WINDY if memory serves me.....

Eagleman can be hot and windy.  Also unshaded course.  Fast and flat though. You are the second to tell me about the heat in FL which is not usually a concern later in the season, but I won't be acclimated in May since I will be coming off the NYC winter (You  know about those).

We, the Mrs and I, are thinking of racing Eagleman this year too! Thanks for the info so far....don't stop!! Looking for a HIM and as a cylde I do not like hills!! So flat is good.....heat over hills!!

We did Cancun 70.3 last year so the heat and lack of shade should be no real problem. Is it a well run event?

Thanks again!!!

Eagleman also has been hot enough that the last few years it's been no wetsuits allowed.  Combined with salt(y) water and the occasional jellyfish (my neighbor got stung in the face one year), weak swimmers should not apply.

someone on ST wrote that for eagleman, make sure you can swim without a wetsuit and the best training would be to put your treadmill in a walk in closet with a heater, and every 10 minutes dump ice down your suit and under your hat. lmao.
