Decided to move from 8-yr old Trek 2100 (aluminum with carbon forks). Like the feel of carbon. Don't think tri-bike paractical as want something for racing -up to 1/2 IM -- and group rides wth tri-club.

Want something good for dual prurpose. Kestral Talon$2000 (20%) discount, Trek $2400, and Cervelo $2800. Pretty much elimated Cerelo on price.

Any thoughts?

Um, yeah ... I'd like to be in your shoes!

Are the components the same/close to same? Wheel sets?

Also, ask your LBS if they would let you take each out for a 5-8 mile spin. You're dropping a considerable amount of coin and it might behoove you to take each for an extended test drive ... 'cause changing steeds from there wont be cheap!

Congrats on the getting the new bike. If I come home with one more thing from the bike store, my wife is going to <_______ fill in appropriate crime scene term from CSI>.

Have test drove all. All Shimano Ultegra. Lucky I manage the checkbook - - my wife just writes checks!

If you're patient, you can probably find a Trek 5200 for under $2k. I was lurking for a few months before a local Trek dealer had a sale, and I managed to pick one up for $1900!
Of course, there are a lot of them out there, but I'm VERY happy with my purchase!
Good luck!!

Get the one which you feel most comfortable on. Try it out for a quick spin, some LBS do have samples. But comfort > price anytime. I've never tried the Talon or Cervelo, but I have to say I love my Trek 5200 Road bike. It's a dream and I actually prefer riding her over my tri-race bike (QR Lucero)
