Subject: Questions about cheap starter gear
I've been looking around and want to start getting to train and getting some gear. For now I'll be on a strict budget with the hopes of getting good gear for next season. I'm wanting to get some shoes and clipless peddels and found a few things. Just wanted to know the ups and downs of starting this cheap. Also if I should just save up and get the good stuff or what.

Shoes:

Bikes:

Any ideas of if these would be good or not would be great. Also the whys would help considering I don't know why bikes are better than others etc. Thanks in advance.

Hey. I'm new too. I got freaked out at the prices of bikes and called my local pawn shops and found a Quantana Roo Kilo in good rideable shape, really cheap. First suggestion, Find out what size your bike should be.

Hey Bradword,

The shoes and pedals you're looking at are fine as long as the shoes fit and are comfortable.  If you get the wrong size or they don't fit right you'll be in a world of hurt.  Might want to try a few pair on at a LBS.

As far as the bikes, they too look acceptable.  Most mass produced bike frames are made in the same factories as more expensive bikes.  What you pay for are the component groups.  Shimano SORA is towards the bottom in quality, but not the worst.  For a beginner on a budget both bikes appear fine.  Be sure and check your local bike shop for end of the year discounts.  Most shops have great deals this time of year and give additional discounts on gear if you buy a bike from them.
