Pre-race routine:

Nothing fancy. Ate cereal and a banana 3 hours before. Cursed the weather after yesterday was so nice. Tried to time everything so that I wouldn't be late standing in the bathroom line!!!
I didn't realize that it was such a big race, so I was glad I was relatively early
Event warmup:

Light jogging
Run
  • 27m 25s
  • 5 kms

Comments:

I felt really slow at first with all these people passing me, and I could see a lot of people ahead. Then when we turned around, I saw a lot more people behind me and I felt a whole lot better!!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Haven't done any speed training yet, but that has been the plan all along. It is time to start.
The cold windy weather also puts the brakes on your speed.

Performance: Good
Course: Down by Lake Ontario. First km was into the wind (gusting up to 28km/hr!!)and slightly uphill. Then it went slightly downhill for a bit we turned around out of the wind and the course levelled off. After 3k we turned around into the wind again (arrgh)and the last 1km was going uphill again (mild grade, but with wind resistance) I won't comment on keeping cool below because IT WAS FREEZING OUT!
