Total Time = 46m 54s
Overall Rank = 232/275
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 18/21
Pre-race routine:

Ate a power harvest bar and drank a lot ~1-1 1/2 hours before race.

Kind of hard to have a routine...I've never been in a race that started so late in the day (4:30PM).
Event warmup:

Walked ~1 mile to transition area. Swam ~10 minutes and did some jogging with some short sprints. Trying to be careful with foot problems.

My roommate, Correen, arrived today from Wisconsin. I told her my race # ahead of time (#69!!!) so she could pick me out in the crowd if she made it to see the race. SHE DID! So I got to meet her and chat in the minutes before the race.
Run
  • 11m 50s
  • 1.55 miles
  •  min/mile
Comments:

Felt pretty good. Kept up with Molly for the first half of the run...an accomplishment when I'm healthy, much less injured.
What would you do differently?:

Probably go a bit slower so I wouldn't be winded for the swim.
Transition 1
  • 01m 23s
Comments:

At end of run transition there was a carpet over the sand to lead us to the beach. The great toe of my left foot caught on it and either jammed or bent down. Needless to say, I went down in a big heap...one minute I was running to the water, the next I was lying on my backside staring up at the sky!
What would you do differently?:

NOT TRIP AND FALL!!! That hurt!
Swim
  • 18m 8s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was very out of breath from the first run, plus my toe was throbbing for the first 100-200 meters or so from falling.
What would you do differently?:

Take the first run a little slower and NOT TRIP AND HURT MYSELF AGAIN!
Transition 2
  • 01m 34s
Comments:

Slow running back up the beach. Hard to push off with my left foot to run in the soft sand.
What would you do differently?:

Dare I say it again?!?? NOT FALL IN THE FIRST PLACE!
Run
  • 14m 1s
  • 1.65 miles
  • 08m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

Toe really bothering me now, but still caught a few people.
What would you do differently?:

I'm NOT going to say it again!
Post race
Warm down:

Couldn't really warm down...toe was bothering me. Walked as much as I could to do some cooling down, but I knew I'd be sore tomorroe.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of running due to foot injuries the past month plus new one I got today.

Event comments:

Not as organized as you would think a world championship should be, although I know the aquathlon isn't the main event...it's just sort of a warmup thing for the tri on Sunday. Qualifying for the aquathlon team is MUCH easier than qualifying for the tri team!

P.S. Had to wait until Wednesday to see team docs about the toe. Diagnosis is a sprain. Had them e-stim it and tape to help me survive the rest of the week.

Welcome back Sharon!!! I can't believe you hurt your toe- what a freak thing to happen...You should be really pleased with your running, considering your foot injury! That is really odd to have a race start that late in the day, too. I would be going crazy all day waiting around.

Your swim was great though! Awesome job....Hope that toe feels better. Barry and I are doing the North Miami Beach relay this Sunday. Should be fun. Are you doing MiamiMan in Nov.??

Let me just say, you were there, and I was not...in my book that makes you a ROCK STAR!  Sorry to hear about the toe..on top of the foot, I know how freaking fast you usually run, so it must have been frustrating.  Awesome swim!  Welcome home
