Training starts today, still can't do upper body weights so treadmill and cycle it is to see where I'm at for now... Fingers crossed I get to the ones I want to do this year. How has everyone been going? |

| Member 20 | Subject: RE: Any other NZers? What a difference a year makes! 1 September-beginning the run to Taupo HIM and ultimately IM 2009. It's true, training history counts. If I look back 12 months I remember wondering how I was going to complete IM2008. I did a half IM (last November) and then an IM camp in January with Fitforfun.co.nz. Run by Josh White and Steve Farrel. Well worth the investment. After day 1 you wonder how you are going to get through race day. But by the end of the camps you feel very confident. Did my first IM this year at Taupo. It was the best thing ever. If you want to enjoy the day (it is possible) I recommend finding a coach to plan your year and write your programs. Then hook up with a tri club and put in the work. You will here this 1000 times...The hardest part of IM is the training... get it right and do the work and the day is a breeze! Find your race pace, get used to taking on food while you ride and run. Plan your splits, when you eat and how much. If someone screams past you in the ride don't chase them (they probably don't have a plan). A lot can happen over 6-7 hours of the bike. People go out too hard and you see them being carried off in ambulances with 30k to go in the ride. The worst part of IM (for me) was crossing the finish line. Suddenly my goal was achieved...what next. I've got to wait 12 months to IM. |

I did the Auckland 1/2IM in April, had a bit of recovery time, and have been doing preseason training since then tao make sure I'd be up to it and ready for when the real training starts. It's a big step up from a 1/2 to full IM so I'm just out to love the experience and do the best I can with what I've got. Gerrard |

Regular 102 Auckland, New Zealand | Subject: RE: Any other NZers? Hi team. I've entered for my first HIM's - Rotorua in december, then I managed to snare an entry for Tauranga a month after that. Training is going well (in Auckland), cycling is building up, swimming with the Auckland Central Masters on Wed nights, and running is OK. Got sidelined by shin splints so am taking it easy, but am up to 60-90 minutes runs again. Getting massages and icing legs! I want to do IM Taupo in 2010 - I took wife down to see the event this year, we sat in the rain with the kids until the end and they were captivated by it. Last week while painting the roof I yelled down to her "Can I do Ironman 2010?" and she said yes. Bring it on! |

The reality of working and training has been bit of a shock to both of us, but it's all panning out well. I might just have a few brownie points to make up a bit further down the track... I scored an entry to the Tauranga 1/2 the day they went on sale so pretty stoked about that. Be keen to know how it compares to Taupo and Rotorua for future years. Gerrard |

Did the Taupo Half in 2010 and also one of the Scorching Bays but that's it. Really excited about finally making my way over there. I'm no longer doing that many triathlons, but I just might retake them as I'm sure this change in environment and lifestyle will lend itself to it. I tried to sign up for IMNZ'12, but it sold out by the time I managed to sort out my visa. For the time being, my wife and I will be running the Auckland marathon on Oct 30th to get to know the city a bit... yes, we're that slow  For ages, I've dreamt of doing the Speight's Coast to Coast, but I'm not really sure I'll have the required skills regardless of how much I train. I'm still willing to give it a try. 2012 or most likely 2013. Looking forward to any tips on places to train in Auckland or meeting like-minded people. We'll most likely arrive at a hotel and then go apartment hunting, so not really sure what area of the city we'll be in. Félix |

New to the site and am looking at Taupo Ironman for 2013. Ex Taupo lad now living in Darwin. Did Tri's in the early 80's and that's it. Currently coach potato status and looking for a new lease in life for 2012 and 2013. I believe the Ironman events sell out rather quickly so will be looking to grab a spot as soon as they appear on the market.
