Comments:

I got way off course by following some other guys who I purposely fell behind. The 3rd buoy was much smaller than the first two, so we totally missed. They only had one support boat, so it took the guy a while to finally paddle over to us to tell us to turn around. I finished 46th...the first time in my career I've finished out of the top 10.
What would you do differently?:

not trust other swimmers to know where they're going.

again...not good. I found out that it's harder racing against guys you don't know because you have no gauge for how fast you're going. I'm usually a top 5-10 run split.

a 10 hour drive the day before and pizza and beer until midnight the night before the race.
