Subject: When to use different lenses?

Got some Serfas sunglasses at the local tri store a couple weeks ago, came with grey, amber, clear and smoke lenses.....So, you go out in the am, too dark so you use clear lenses, but then the sun comes out, you don't change them....

What's the point of clear lenses?

When do I use amber lenses?

What's the rule of thumb?

I use contact lenses, so the clear interchangeable lens is awesome on the bike in the early morning or late evening when you want eye protection but don't need tinted lenses. otherwise I almost always use a polarized smoke lens.

Amber seem to work well (for me) under cloudy/hazy conditions.

Yep. Amber lenses are for low-light conditions. Clear for no light (night) or rain.

Smoke and grey would be ideal for a bright day to reduce glare, if they are polarized they will significantly reduce glare. What's the point of clear lenses? Protection with foreign objects and wind (reduces tearing).
