didn't want to hijack Renee's thread...

Family wants to go vacation in December 2007, someplace preferably with SNOW (since we havent' seen it- kids never been).  Rent a cabin, room, or something, get to go out and play and not spend too much money (or do).

suggestions, recommendations???

Wyomine - West Yellowstone or Jackson, WY are awesome places, or Montana. If you get a chance to get into Yellowstone National Park - don't pass it up. It's so pretty out there in the winters & summer too.

Guess it depends on what you want to do.  I personally think everyone should see the rockies.  Its amazing.  The kids would like learning to ski I am sure.  Skiing is very expensive.  Other things to do include snowboarding, ice skating, snow mobiling, snow shoeing, tubing...snow is good   I miss it.  It is probab;y just as pricy to go to New England as to the Rockies and the snow is more predictible in the rockies.  Idaho may be less expensive but I have never been there.

"Christmas Vacation" Doesn't cousin Eddie come over with his broken down RV?

"Surprised? I couldn't be more surprised Eddie if I woke up and my head was sown to the carpet. This is gonna be the best Christmas since Bing Crosby tap danced with Danny F&%$ing Kaye!"

Yeah!  That's a great movie!

If I woke up tomorrow with my head sewn to the carpet, I wouldn't be more surprised than I am right now.

Where do you think you're going? Nobody's leaving. Nobody's walking out on this fun, old-fashioned family Christmas. No, no. We're all in this together. This is a full-blown, four-alarm holiday emergency here. We're gonna press on, and we're gonna have the hap, hap, happiest Christmas since Bing Crosby tap-danced with Danny fucking Kaye. And when Santa squeezes his fat white ass down that chimney tonight, he's gonna find the jolliest bunch of assholes this side of the nuthouse.

I could go on forever.

LMAO Karen....OK, now do the bit where he's pissed off at his boss and it all ends with "Where's the Tylenol."

Never mind...here it is:

"I'd like Frank Shirley, my boss, right here tonight. I want him brought from his happy holiday slumber over there on Melody Lane, with all the other rich people, and I want him brought right here with a big ribbon on his head. And, I want to look him straight in the eye and I want to tell him what a cheap, lying, no good, rotten, floor-flushing, low-life, snake-licking, dirt-eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood-sucking, dog-kissing, brainless, dickless, hopeless, heartless, fat-ass, bug-eyed, stiff-legged, spotty-lipped, worm-headed, sack of monkey shit he is! Hallelujah! Holy Shit! Where's the Tylenol?"

That scene makes me fall over laughing each and every time.  Well, can you call it laughing when it's more like hyperventilating?

Breckinridge is good (and pretty cheap by skiing standards). We always rent a house in Breck a few blocks off main street--not as expensive as you may think (we rented a 3 bedroom house for less than 2 hotel rooms would have cost). The skiing in Breck is really good (but not great), but the town is a lot of fun in the evenings.

New Mexico is generally cheaper, but unless you're a good skier and go to Taos, the skiing is pretty lousy.

Canada is great. Bamf, Whistler, Blackcomb all rock.

What about Yosemite?  I just went there for the first time in May and it was sooo beautiful.  We saw photos of what it's like there in Dec/Jan and it looks amazing.  And since there are so few people (compared to summer) I would think it would be wonderful.  They have cabins.

My BF says his family used to go there every Christmas when he was a small kid.  They'd go sledding and cross-country skiing.

I am biased but I suggest Park City or the Salt Lake ski areas. Lots to do. But, I would also agree with the Tetons and/or Yellowstone.

Come and visit us in Quebec, Canada!. You can be pretty sure you'll have snow! And with the canadian dollar, its a good deal if you're from the US. Just one hour north of Montreal, there are the Laurentiens, which is ski country. Actuallyits, downhill ski, Xcountry, snowshoeing, etc, etc.

And you get to practice your french! Don't worry, almost everybody also speaks English. And you don't need a passport!

Let me know if you want more details. I'd be glad to help

Referring to Renee's thread, Mont Tremblant, where Machiavelo will be spending the holidays, is in the Laurentiens. I have a house 30 minutes from there.

I agree. I've spent quite a few Christmases up at Park City. Deer Valley is, hands down, my favorite local for "family skiing." My friends give me grief about "executive skiing," but it's great--very laid back and easy enough that everyone can have a great time.

Park City has great skiing and more challenging terrain.

I have never skied at The Canyons. Lodging is generally cheaper at The Canyons and Jeremy Ranch.

AND, Alta is within driving distance!
