Does anyone know of some spring/early summer Half Triathlons in the Midwest - particularly in Illinois or southern Wisconsin? Thanks.

I've never done (or heard of) a half triathlon, all mine have been whole.

I'm going to go with the first half: swim and half of the bike, screw the run!

PGoldberger - 2005-10-25 1:21 PM I'm going to go with the first half: swim and half of the bike, screw the run!

And I'll take the second half.  Sounds easy.

Hey! Maybe the two of you can team up, maybe add a third so that each of you is doing only one of the disciplines. We'll think of a unique name to call it, maybe RELAY?

Jake, you'll soon discover three things around here:

1 - Most triathletes take umbrage at the suggestion that anything less than a full iron distance triathlon isn't "really" a triathlon. That's because even a Sprint distance tri is hard. Hence, terms like "half triathlon" and "mini triathlon" aren't received well.

2 - Lame jokes can be extraordinarily long lived.

3 - Once the off season hits, certain people can get pretty goofy.

To actually answer your question: currently the two best resources on the web for finding a specific race are www.trifind.com and www.active.com

Good luck.

Not exactly according to your specifications, but if you're willing to travel just a bit....

late May Little Smokies (OH) -- www.hfpracing.com
early June Halfmax (MO) -- www.ultramaxtri.com
early June Sylvania (OH) -- www.sylvaniahalf.com
mid July Muncie Endurathon (IN) -- www.muncieendurathon.com

The '05 dates for these were, respectively, 5/29, 6/5, 6/12, and 7/16. Little Smokies is already down for May 28. A good place to keep track of these is www.trifind.net.

the bear - 2005-10-25 1:46 PM What's an off season?

That's the period of time you can't race or do serious training because your body broke down and injured something.

The Bear bitter!!! NEVER!! A little cranky or impatient at times but under fire he's the kindest and nicest person you could know. Now if we can just get someone to throw hand grenades at him for the rest of his life we've got it made.
