Overall Rank = 41/63
Age Group = M 40 - 44
Age Group Rank = 3/4
Pre-race routine:

Decided to do the tri Friday at lunch time. We really wanted to do one more tri and we also have central Florida on our list of places we may want to live so what the heck. Drove 6 hours Friday then did a little ride on the Withlacoochie Trail Saturday around lunch time.

We then went to the Great American Cooter Festival. What a blast, we saw Roscoe P Coletrain, the General Lee and lots of Cooters. We paid $5 and bought Cooters and entered them in the Cooter Races. We didn't win but it was fun. Went back to the hotel and cleaned up the bikes and got to bed early.
Event warmup:

Day light savings time ended but the hotel didn't fall back. The wake up call was an hour early. Got another call an hour later and got ready. Zone bar for breakfast then drove the 5 minutes to the race site. It was very cold, 53 when we got there. Registered and racked the bikes than sat around for an hour. Did I say it was cold!
Swim
  • 10m 18s
  • 437 yards
  • 02m 21s / 100 yards
Comments:

Good but not very fast. I drank water on the way in. It was better than most any tap water I ever had.
Transition 1
  • 01m 37s
Comments:

Put shoes on in transition with no issues. Long run to mount line and I blew the clip in again. It was uphill and I needed to be rolling. Mental error. I was still 14 out of 63.
What would you do differently?:

clip in better
Bike
  • 26m 25s
  • 10 miles
  • 22.71 mile/hr
Comments:

Course was short, 9.3 so just barely over 20. My power is fine but the endurance is down due to lack of riding. I passed 11 and was not passed.
What would you do differently?:

just need to get miles back up
Transition 2
  • 01m 28s
Comments:

No issues that I remember but I was slow relative 35 out of 63.
Run
  • 27m 19s
  • 3 miles
  • 09m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

Great run for me. I did not get passed by anyone in my age group and I negative splitted the last mile.
Post race
Warm down:

waited for marcy, cheered folks in.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

ankle pain at the end, but no complaints

Event comments:

Well run race. DRC did a great job. Good prerace instructions. Swim course was awesome, had buoys on both sides to help with navigation. Bike was great road, first half was closed to traffic, police protection at all intersections. Run was good too. This was the first year of this race and it went off perfectly, no first year issues. Only about 60 people but a very fun race. The awards were done quickly and the prizes were good.

I placed 3rd in my age group. This is the first time I have ever placed in a triathlon and a great way to close the year.

I am committed to the panhandle for approximately 1 year. After that I will have to find a real job again and central florida will be my primary focus. I loved the atmosphere of the area, didn't know that still existed in Florida. The bike trail is awesome and we will probably plan a vacation there to enjoy that trail and scout the area. Who knows???

1.

bought Cooters and entered them in the Cooter Races.
   What??

2. What are you meaning that you are not clipping in right? That you don't get it on the first try or something?

Oh I mean this is number one 1. AWESOME for winning 3rd. That is very nice!

1.

   What??

The triathlon was part of the Cooter Festival. The Cooter is something we would have in soup at Brennens (Turtles). One of the many Cooter oriented events was Cooter Races. You paid $5 and got to pick your own Cooter for the race. You also got to name your cooter but I want get into that. They they would bring us into a big circle and the we put them on the ground and they raced to be the first cooter out of the arena.

2. What are you meaning that you are not clipping in right? That you don't get it on the first try or something?

Yes, the start was slightly uphill and I couldn't get my second foot into the pedals. I had to stop and start over. Second time it happened to me.

Oh I mean this is number one 1. AWESOME for winning 3rd. That is very nice!

Thanks for reading and commenting. How is the running going?

It's going. I think I may need to research some kind of form running or something.
