Pre-race routine:

Brent, Sara and I showed up about 30 minutes before the race to pick up our time chip. We stayed at Sara's parents the night before so we got up about 7am. I had oatmeal and coffee and leisurely read the newspaper. My biggest dilemma of the day was what to wear since it was chillier than usual out.
Event warmup:

We did really warm up much...this was their first race ever. I jog a little and did a little stretching...I just wanted to stay warm.

Comments:

I wasn't sure how I was going to run today. We had driven up to Pinehurst on Friday night to stay at Sara's parents. Her boyfriend Brent stayed with us as well and her parents had a great dinner for us...which included wine. I drank a few glasses which I don't usually do before a race so I wasn't sure how this would affect my running. I did the run with a "just see how you feel" attitude and went from there. I felt pretty good and I was happy with my run.
What would you do differently?:

In general I will never drink wine the night before...I did feel a little under the weather when I got up.

Jogged the course backwards to see if I could cheer on Sara and Brent

Course: The course was a 5km out and back through residential Pinehurst. It was beautiful. There were a few hills but the course was nice..the roads were good to run on and the scenery was enjoyable!

Nice run! Although it was a little chilly, sounds like a great race. Are you going to join the NC team for the December swim challenge?
