Pre-race routine:

Wake up late. I'd like to think this is not a routine, but....well....
Event warmup:

Run around trying to keep warm. It was like 30 degrees! Try to call Cindy, belatedly remembering that Quantico cell phone service is spotty at best.

Comments:

This run was great! Gave Stake a smack on the ass at the starting line, sending him off to his PR. Cindy and I settled in to a nice easy pace and chit chatted the whole way along. At one point I remembered that she has been doing run/walk, and we hadn't been walking at all, so I was about to ask her if she wanted to stop, and right as I open my mouth, I hear her yell "SLACKERS!!!" to a group of marines that were lounging around watching the race. Looks like we didn't need a walk break after all! Cindy deserves MAJOR kudos for end-of-race style: as we go into the final 200 yards, she starts tearing off her cloths, while sprinting, pauses for a minute to puke on the side, and then commences sprinting again. Awesome!!! I stand in awe of her.

What would you do differently?:

Nothing. The run was nice, the cource was beautiful, and the company was great. I commented to Stake at the end of the race that I wanted to do it all again, and he gave me this look and then said "Well...yeah. That's what happens when you PACE yourself and don't try to induce heart attack" Huh. Go figure!
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed some snacks and hung out for a bit, then headed out as it was starting to get chilly. Drove around Quanitco for a bit -- I had never been there, so it was great to have a knowledgable tour guide! Stake was able to point out each and every building and it was nice to see where he spent 4 years of his life. We also checked out the biking trails and running trails and made promises to go back and utilize them. It is beautiful out there and I am really looking forward to going back.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I wasn't racing, I was just running. It was great to get to know Cdcouture and have a post sickness rebound back into running. This is prob. the first 'race' I've ever done where I didn't want to die at the end, and I kinda dig that -- might have too look into this whole "pacing" thing!

Nice run Elizabeth!!  Glad you didn't induce the heart attack, that's always a bad way to finish up a race!!  So, no puking for you today??!!  WTF??  It's not a great race without a little puke!!

Even with the puking, I didn't want to die either, and that was REALLY nice.

Thank you again!

Glad you had a good run Chippy! Can't wait till we "run" the Disney 5K!! I think the costumes will pretty much demand a nice, slow pacing strategy!!

Cool, Liz! I read Cindy's RR, and she mentioned puking, so naturally I figured it was you...heh.

I can see where you would think that, but in this particular instance, it was a case of the student surpassing the master

Nice race, E. You get to enjoy runs at a whole new level when you're not balls-out. It is very, very cool. Once in a while.
