Yet another stupid gear question. How do you know what gear your in? If I start at the bottom at 11 and work my way up that gets me to 29 not 23. What am I missing here. I worked out with a spinerval video for the first time realized quickly that I know jack about my gears. My front is a 53/39 and rear cassette says 11/29. How do I know what gear sm. 15 is?

Each cog should have a number on it.  Alternatively, you can count the number of teeth on each.  sm. 15 should be your small chainring up front (your 39) and 15 tooth cog.
