Re the "age-up" rule, if I "accidentally" start in the wrong wave, will I be DQed? When I signed up last year I was in the previous AG. They only asked for my age.

Probably (unless you start in a later-starting wave). And if you start in a wave where you don't match the rest of the swim cap colors, you may get called on it.

Tony - better to contact the Race Director and confirm that you are slated to swim in the right wave.  (They may have already placed you in the correct wave based upon birthdate given?)

According to the USAT rules 3.4m, starting in the wrong wave is a DQ.  As this is a high profile race with a deep pro field, there will be a large contingent of USAT Race Officials on site ... and there is not a lot for them to do prior to the bike portion of the race (other than look for transition area racking violations) but watch the swim start.

Wrong swim cap color at the beginning of the wave start = DQ.  The timing chip might also give away a wrong start time.

I need to check as well.  I think I signed up for the wrong AG as well.

I just emailed the race director to confirm I was in the correct AG wave.  He promotly emailed me back within 10 minutes- wow!  These guys are on the ball!  Just shoot him a quick email to make sure.

possum - 2006-04-11 12:09 PM wait, janelle, i thouhght we had to race w/ TNTers at the end?

Ok- so this is confusing but I can explain.  Since I've done St. Anthony's before and am a TNT alum, I was asked to register for this race on my own so they would have enough designated "TNT spots" to let the TNT newbies do this race.  APparently GA is alotted so many slots for this race, and between all the GA chapters we had too many wanting to do St. Anthony's.  In order for everyone (newbies and alums) to do this race they asked alums to register on their own.  So I registered on my own.  At the time I didn't know about the TNT group and registered AG.  I asked TNT if I could get moved into their wave and unfortunately I can't.  But the good thing is hopefully I'll finish and be able to see all the TNT'ers finish

With the new age-up rule, I am now 30 and that is reflected when I look myself up in the "Participants" area . The good news is I start just after the pros so I can try and catch Peter Reid on the bike.........ha

Also, one would be DQed if they started in the wrong age group. That is confirmed.

Thanks,
Tony

What kind of racking violations would they be looking for? I can't think of any off hand.
- Stinky, unwashed sox laying around?
- Wrong bike color?

I've seen them look for bikes racked in the wrong spot, and they will call you out over the loudspeaker for it. MP3 players, too, if they are visible in your transition stuff.

If your bike is racked in the middle of the transition area, approximately how far is the run from the swim exit to it? Just trying to get a mental picture if it.

Thanks,

Just imagine nearly 4,000 biked racked in one place.  Its the largest bike pen you'll see.  I would guess 75 yards from end to end.  You typically go in one side and out the other for the two transitions.  There is a pic of the bike pen from 2005 in my Album...there are a few other pics of the race site in the album for those of you who are doing St. A's for the first time.

Last year I did St. A's and it was my first Olympic. I was the same way - I thought of nothing but that race for weeks! I was SO nervous and excited. I wasn't nearly as nervous before IMAZ. Must be the St. A's mojo that gets us all worked up!
