I slipped back a bit last week but now I'm refocused and mentally ready to keep moving forward with my plan. Consistent is the name of the game now.

New to the site, but plans seem to be inline so far. I have been slacking quite a bit this week to get ready for Christmas, but am ready to ramp it up again next week.

I'm completely on track with swimming and biking (though slow as molasses, the distances will be there!).

But my runninig has been completely sidelined until my PT and ortho doc can evaluate me again mid month. Even if they give me the go ahead at that time (God willing!), I'll still be over a month behind. It's been paining me something fierce since mid November. But did I slow down? No. Not until two weeks later when my knee just wouldn't work right. So now I'm on an anti-inflammatory regimen and some PT exercises.

Frustrating, but I'm still game! I'm incredibly excited about the race. We have a bunch of friends who are hoping to come with us as well. (We being myself and my training partner, Eileen (eafilomeno)).

Hey everyone-

New to the training plans here--just getting ready to start the 12 week HIM to IM bridge training plan...just looked it over.  Looks like the wife won't be enjoying the weekends with me for a while.  Anyone training here around Phoenix?  Trying to set up some 6+ hr rides in a month or so.

Has anyone done this race before? I see on the elevation map there is a bit of a hill on the run, but I am wondering exactly where that is on the course. Any thoughts would be a big help.

Talk to madcow, devo27, or Tiger_Phil...they all did it last year.  IMAZ looks pretty tame compared to IMLP, but after looking at the profiles, perhaps I should have chosen IMFL for my first IM

The profiles look worse than the actual course. The bike profile looks like massive hills but when you look at the numbers on the side you realize there's only a 250ft or so elevation change from the lows to highs and thats over about 8 miles.

I can give you more specific information on the run if you like after this weekend. I have a brick scheduled for the bike and run course on Sunday.

any word on where the hill is on the run? I pull the course up on google earth and it seems to be on the out and back on the dirt trail, but that's all I can estimate.

Uhhmm, it looks like miles 6 and 18...if you consider a 100 ft elevation gain a "hill".

A number of race reports that I've read have mentioned walking up the "hill". Others mention it as a bit of a challenge that mixes up the muscle groups. My question is not what mile it is at as I have seen the profile as well, but where exactly on the course it is. The run course map does not show the mile markers so I am just estimating where it sits. Just a curiosity for someone who has not been out to the course. Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks

The 1st "hill" is going from the lake up to the Scottsdale Rd Bridge. It’s about 80ft elevation in a short distance. This is probably the hill people where referencing.

You drop down to lake level on the other side.

On the profile map, it looks like another hill right away but it’s more of a gradual incline over a mile, hardly noticeable, to N Lake View Dr.

Again, gradual-up all the way to McDowell Rd (about 125ft) over 3 miles, there’s a little hill getting to McDowell Rd right at the turn around.

Hope this helps.

UPDATE: The hill going up College to the canal is about 1 mile long and is about a 2 to 3% grade at times. Not really a "hill" by some standards but more of a pain on the second lap.

It got my HR up but that's not saying much.

The weekend of March 3-5 is going to be a monster training weekend on the IMAZ course.
We'll be doing everything from the full IM distance on the bike, running the course and even the open water swim (not Tempe town Lake but the closes lake) over the 3 days. Anyone interested in joining the fun let me know I'll pass on the details. Only 44 days to go and no time like the present to dial in your nutrition and get comfortable with the course.

FYI the run course has been updated: They removed the canal from the run and added more hill (Curry and Lakeview Dr.). It's now a 3 loop course around the lake.
check www.ironmanarizona.com for the details.

Yeah, I noticed they changed it too. I knew there was a pretty strong rumor floating around and just kept waiting for the website to make it official. They updated the map, but the profile is still the old two loop course, I would be interested to see the new profile. Not that it really matters, just curious.

Doug, there are folks starting the bike course at 8am Sunday at the Tempe Beach Parking lot. They will be doing all 3 loops.

I'm not sure how many because 2 of us will be in San Diego and some others will be doing the Scottsdale TRI but I did get confirmation that there will be people doing the ride.

I'm going out for my final training 112 on the course tomorrow, no mp3 palyer or anything just some time on the road to do a speed and effort level check and hydration check. I'll see how that goes. Hopefully I'll get off the bike better than I did 2 Saturdays ago.
