Subject: Dolly does 10K..WOOO HOOO My first race this year, and in fact it's been over 10 years since I last did a 10K, was on Sunday. I had knee pain last Tuesday which cut short a 5K training run, (I almost cried ). After almost 4 months of injury-free training, why, oh why, do I have pain 4 days before my race??? Spent the rest of the week nursing my injury. Ran 1/2 a mile on Thursday with no pain.. and starting praying. Drove the 6 hours to get to Victoria, picked up my race package and drove the route. Tried to relax, but was up at 4 am starting to get ready. Dropped my daughter off with friends at 7am and headed for the starting line. The green zone was my start area (time: 56- 106 minutes ). I was hoping for a time of 70-75, as all my long training runs were around 7 min/k. And now with the knee, I wasn't sure how my time would be affected by that!!!
At the 1K marker I was under 7!! Wow, must be just early momentum carrying me with the crowd...2K--still under 7!!!...Hey, and no pain... I this point I knew I was going to have a great run, and just GAVE ALL! I crossed the finish line at 66:53.
I am soooo happy with myself!!! I found my name/time/rank in the newspaper on Monday, I ranked 4,595 out of 10,653.
I want to thank all of you for your training advice and encouragement. I don't think I would have been as successful without you!!!!
I'm hooked....now I just need to find another one to do....and maybe an earlier tri too....
