Cobb Police are looking for a man in connection with what they call an attempted rape Monday afternoon near the Silver Comet Trail at
Cooper Lake Road
in Mableton.

According to investigators, the female victim was running on the Silver Comet Trail when she was abducted by a Hispanic male armed with a knife. The man allegedly forced the victim into the woods and attempted to rape her.

Police say the victim was able to escape from the suspect, who then fled on foot toward the East-West Connector.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his mid 30s, 5-foot 8-inches tall, and between 150 and 160 pounds. He was wearing a navy blue baseball cap with the letters NY printed side by side, grey sweatpants, and possibly a navy blue crew neck sweatshirt.

Anyone who may have information in connection with the suspect is asked to call Detective E. W. Nichols at 770-801-3470.

Whoa. Did they say what time of day?

And it doesn't surprise me either. Another reason to run in groups in public places like that...

What did suprise me was that is was so close to the start, usually a more crowded part of the trail.

Makes me rethink going to ride there by myself. Guess I can take my chances getting hit my midtown cars. Hmmm...cars or rapists?

I think a runner would be more likely to get attacked. I can just see it - like bandits of the old west - trying to jump you on your bike, and missing miserably, rolling down a hill and getting run over by a stampede of cyclists.

Is the runner okay? It's sad it happened in a place where you're supposed to be able to feel safe, in theory anyway

Whoa. Did they say what time of day?

I read the approximate time somewhere else.  It seems like it was early to mid afternoon.  Not exactly when I would expect.  Maybe close to dusk so there is the protection of the shadows.  It just didn't matter.

As cyclists and runner it has been mentioned that we all should watch out for each other anyway.  On a bike, we are fast and silent (compared to walking).  If we have passed a single person walking and soon pass a shady character going the opposite direction, it would not hurt us at all to turn around and be sure everything is OK.

I agree with Comet - It happened at Cooper Lake?  Maybe the runner felt secure because it was a busy section.

Be aware and let's look out for each other!!

Hmmm ... I was going to take a day or so off to go deer hunting next week. My wife suggested hanging a tree stand next to the SC trail around where this happened and waiting ...
