Total Time = 18m 36s
Overall Rank = 19/?
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 2/?
Pre-race routine:

Worked all day... The race started at 6PM... I was really busy so I had to scramble to make it to the start on time.
Event warmup:

None
Run
  • 18m 36s
  • 5 kms
  • 03m 43s  min/km
Comments:

I wanted to break 18 minutes... This probably wasn't realistic given my training has been mostly rest since my Marathon on Dec. 4th... I don't think I'm fully recovered so my goal was a bit ambitious.
Still I went out fast and got through the first two miles with a bit of a cushion... I slowed down on the 3rd mile but I didn't think I slowed as much as I did. Oh well... it was fun to make the heart beat fast.
What would you do differently?:

I wish they had water or Gatorade at the start. My mouth was really dry at the starting line and it only got worse during the race. I should have brought some H2O with me to the start.
Post race
Warm down:

2 slices of cheese pizza (Domino's - YUK!) and some water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of speed work and training in general, my dry mouth and the couple of pounds of fat that I've gained since the marathon.

Event comments:

I need to work on my short races... I think I can get faster with the proper training.
