Subject: hollow man tat?
After seeing some stuff on people getting the MDot tatoo after completeing an Iron Man, I started thinking about getting just the outline done. Leave it hollow as a reminder of what my goal is, so I can see it and be reminded of it every time I look in the mirror. Then I'll also be reminded of my failure every time I see it, should I never complete one. Once I finish, I'd fill it in and maybe put something else around it.

I personally like the idea, and I know it's my body blah blah blah. I just want all of your opinions on it

I know some people get them as a reminder of why they are training or to keep them focused. For me, I think it is something earned. Again, your body yada, yada.

I have mine on my shoulder. I rarely take my shirt off except to race or swim. When someone who knows what it means see it, the first thing they say is "Your an Ironman? "What race did you do? I wouldn't want to say "Well, I haven't done one yet, but I will, someday" I would feel like a poser.

That's just me

Take it for what it's worth.

I was going to do the outline first then fill in. However, I was going to do the outline after my first iron, then fill in with a texas flag when I did an iron in Texas (there's only one small race). I didn't know when I would actually get to do the race I wanted so I opted not to.

Its your body, do what you want, but I rode next to a guy doing the same full iron as me. He said it was his first iron. He had an ironman tattoo. He had completed one 1/2 iron. I was so confused.

I thought about getting half of an m-dot tat after my first HIM, but then decided that was dumb.

LOL, you could get one for every race you've ever been in. They'd be like those stickers that football players have on their helmets for each quarterback sack.

I also agree that it is earned. If I see an Ironman tat then I am assuming they have completed 140.6. That's when I give them the homage they deserve and call them a "bad @ss"!!

Damn, I thought this was about getting a tattoo to commemorate that Kevin Bacon movie.
Oh well...My mistake. Food for thought though if you decide against the Mdot thing.

Not to pile on, but you wouldn't be a failure if you never did an IM. I know several people that got into triathlons and really like it only to find that they loved something else. A couple of people  got into Xterra racing and are super competetive in that arena while others took up bike road racing, ultra running or adventure racing all because of their start in triathlons. Not one of those people consider themselves a failure for not doing an IM, but every single one of them would be kicking themselves if they had gotten an MDot tattoo.

If I was going to get a tatoo to commemorate a Kevin Bacon movie, it would definitely be Footloose.

Wasn't Kevin Bacon the Invisible Man? You could get a tat with invisible ink. That'd be cool thing to show off when you're doing some sweet jumps.

While he was surpurb in Footloose, his dramatic genius really explodes in Tremors.

I liked him in Pyrates ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102733/ ), but also thought he was cool as a bike messenger in Quicksilver. He's got the mad riding skillz.

I recomend just getting a t-shirt or hat. That way 20 years later your son or daughter won't say to you, "You know Dad (or Mom), that bruise (Birthmark, etc...) on your arm (back, etc...) kinda looks like that emblem on your friends old T-shirt that he has framed in his office"

Or worse, what my son said to me. Dad whats that thing on your leg.

I also like the dark side of Kevin Bacon in "A River Wild."  A different kind of villain than Hollow Man

I say you should get Kevin Bacon on one side of your body and John Lithgow on the other and make them fight each other for the right to dance in city limits.
