Subject: Help me help Carly win!

Hey guy can you do me a favor? BT is my secret weapon for getting Carly to win. The teacher in this classroom is my husbands Aunt (Aunt-in-law). It'll only take a second....

This is a game for a K-3 classroom which I’d like to help my partner, Carly, win. Please email the following to [email protected]: your name, location, career and favorite childhood board game and any other information/pictures you’d like to share. This is only valid until January 18th. Please then forward this email to everyone you know so they can help Carly win as well!!!!

Here’s a little more about who I’m playing for: Carly is back in the States for a visit.  She is a great little student whose father works for Chevron and is currently working in Kazakhstan.  Carly was born in Kuwait, and has lived in Nigeria and Kazakhstan.  Her parents bought a house in Goodyear and found our school.  Carly's claim to fame came the day she announced to us, "I can choose to believe in God or not but I choose to believe."  Carly will be sharing in all the e-mail hoopla through e-mail.

Now, here are all the details concerning the rules and how the game will be used in Carly’s class.

Thanks everyone!!!

Kim

The Rules (Since you ARE playing right?)

The Object of the Game

This contest is for a K-3 classroom and will be used for a variety of activities before, during and most likely after the 100th Day of School.  We will be putting pushpins into the world map for each e-mail we receive.  We will be keeping tally marks for each person.  In fact, you will each be assigned to 1 child who will keep track of you and be your partner.  Believe me they will cheer you on because they will want to win also.  We'll continue to learn about not boasting and being a good sport.  You will be getting some encouragement from them via their first e-mails.  We'll keep a class tally sheet for careers and favorite board games.  That information will be used for graphing.  This also will teach the children about e-mail and it's protocol.  When it is all over I will send digital pictures, a commentary and who knows what else to each of you who can then forward it to their friends and their friends to their friends...you get the picture.

Guidelines

1.  Any e-mail sent to us must include your name in it to be counted (don't say duh yet...I have been teaching a loooooong time and never cease to be surprised at the people who say duh, quit reading and LOSE the game-any game).  This means if you want to win you have to have YOUR name from your friends and everyone else on down the line on the e-mail sent.

2.  You are allowed to begin as soon as you receive my e-mail telling you to start and when to end.  All entries must b e postmarked by midnight Jan.18th.

3. PLEASE SEND THE FOLLOWING:  Name, location, career, and favorite childhood board game.  You can add more information, pictures etc. to your e-mail if you wish.  You may forward the same message to your friends and on down the line.

4.  Only one vote for each e-mail account.  Play fair.

5.  Each e-mail counts as 1.

6. PLEASE SEND THE INFO TO THE E_MAIL ADDRESS BELOW.

I should also add, please say that you're sending the email for Carly and I so that the points can be attributed properly.

Just so long as you get Carly's name right!

Has anyone done this? Just curious. I'd really like to help Carly win. I like to win, too.

Y'know, Welshy.... 'it'. Have you done 'it'?

No.... have you sent the email to help, sweet first grader Carly win her classroom contest? Help her learn how good it feels to win. Then she'll learn a healthy competitive spirit and will eventually become obsessed with triathlon and help sustain BT when she's in her mid-twenties. She will even contribute to the "Geriatric Triathlete's Fund", helping pay for your entry fees. See? What goes around comes around.

No, I haven't done it - can you show me how?

What about her learning to win on her own merits instead of by your hard work? I think you are teaching her a bad lesson. Therefore, for her own good, I am electing to NOT fill out the survey. It's because I care and is the more valuable lesson..

You do it like this....

Name: Thomas Welshy

Playing for: Carly

Location: San Antonio, TX

Career: Party Pooper

Favorite Childhood Board Game: Operation (so that you could get better at playing doctor, I presume)

It's kinda hard to win on your own merits in a game that requires emails from other people to win, isn't it? Besides, the game is really about statistics and data management. Larger sample size makes for better statistics, right?

Pshew - done it! It was fun and felt great, but the stress of getting it accomplished took away a little of the enjoyment. I would definately like to do it again now that I have done it once....

Thanks, Welshy. Carly appreciates it, as you know I do. Never underestimate the power of a woman who can nag.
