Subject: Aero Brakes vs TT brakes?
Ok so I have the oval a700 bar and I have some older aero brakes (looks like STI shifters but just brakes) and I was wondering if I should let those go and get some TT reverse pull brake levers. Is there an advantage to one over the other? Are Aero brakes a sign of n00bism sort of like running with your number on your back? Just would like you opinions and all. Thanks.

If I understand correctly, you have some standard brake levers (like the kind that come on regular drop bars) that you want to put on an Oval basebar? It should work, but it will look a little funny. Are you building up a bike from scratch?

Both brakes have the cables concealed in some fashion so you are not gaining anything significant by changing to internal routed tri/TT levers.

The biggest concern is that the old school standard levers will have to have a fairly sharp bend to the housing which can affect the braking performance (harder to pull the cable). But you can fix that by running some thicker SIS housing (the braided housing they use for shifters - it is stiffer).

I'd say keep the standard levers unless it is affecting your braking.

I am building the bike from scratch. So far a fun project. I have soo much junk in the garage I figured lets build a tri-bike. The brakes were left over from a bulk buy of mine. I might go ahead and get some TT brakes if the aero's dont feel right once I mount them. Thanks for the input!
