What was your best race ever, tri or other?

Mine: Contraband Days 5-Miler in Lake Charles, LA. 31:01, 6:12 min/mile average. Totally unscheduled. I was passing through Louisiana on leave from Ft. Benning. Okay so I was chasing this cute girl from the local university cross country team. I passed her about 1/2 mile from the finish so she could see how cool I was. Apparently, I'm not very cool.

400m: 49.0
800m: 1:55 on a stress fracture
1600m 4:21
3200m: 9:49 in a 5k race
5k: 15:45

I never seriously raced higher than that before. I have run a half marathon, but never extended myself longer. Maybe I have longer distances to report later. But they won't look as nice as some of those times do.

Wasn't really a race, but is what I still consider my pinnacle running event.

I was at the US Naval Academy and during Plebe Summer we had to do our running qualifications to see how you would fair the rest of the year. We had to run 1-1/2 miles under a certain time. If anyone could break 8:30, they would not have to do an organized run for the rest of the year as a group. I busted my azz and ran an 8:27 (5:38 pace) .........

But I resigned from the Academy, so it didn't really matter. It was my quintessential run of my "career" though.

I was satisfied with my results at Diamondman but it didn't go exactly as planned.  I'd have to say that Richmond Marathon was my best race to date.  The weather was perfect and I ran the race exactly as I planned...only faster   Since it was my first marathon I kept waiting for the fast pace to catch up with me but I just felt fantastic the whole way.

Surprisingly enough the race that I felt the strongest and therefore my best race, I ended up with a DNF.

It was a crit in Yaletown, Vancouver. There were a lot of spectators as it was Canada Day and my name was in the program so a lot of people were cheering me on. I got lapped by the leader, but not by the pack. The leader lapped the pack too.

Umm... maybe today!

Houston Half Marathon -- first half marathon, okay lets be real, first timed race ever, other than the 2 sprint tri's -- GREAT day mentally, hoped to keep at about 12:30's the whole way and ended up negative splitting to finish in 12:03's (2 hours, 37 minutes, 59 seconds). Yeah maybe the time puts the "personal" in "personal best," but it was an AWESOME race for me!

Which lifetime? Back when I was 18 and won the VacaValley Hospital 10K and beat the 5K field to their turn around was pretty darn good (Even if my dad missed me running by at the end cause I was so far ahead).

But after 15 years of inactivity, my best races were the Ventura Half Marathon in 2004(negative split by 65 seconds) and the DQ tri at Marlton Lakes this year. One of those races that was a tune up for my HIM, so there was no pressure or expectations but I finished in the top 30% overall, top 10 in my age group, broke 20 MPH on the bike leg (all firsts) and had a strong run. Best tri I ever did and I still felt like I had more in the tank.

Great race!  "Personal" best is what it's all about...you should be very proud.

I have three so far that I would consider at the top of my list.  A10K at 40:39 was a great race.  My 3:15 for a 7th place finish in the marathon at Nationals was a fun and fitting way to end my college running career.  All the hard work had been done.  But, I would say my first half in 1:35 was tough but best.  I had to beat 1:40 to qualify for the marathon at Nationals.  I used every thing I had to make sure I got under that so there wasn't any question.  It was my last chance to get there.  I had spent the previous year's outdoor season on the sidelines with a stress fracture.
