I need to work my core. I am not looking for a 6-pack. I'm simply looking for strength. I know myself well enough to know that I am not going to sit there and do ab work without either 1. a personal trainer or 2. a DVD telling me what to do

Right now I'm looking at two -

1. The Firm - Ab sculpt

2. Abs for Dummies

I've been using the Core Secrets DVD - accelerated version (45 minutes).  Saw and felt tangible results in 3 weeks of doing it 3x per week.  I love it.

Winsor Pilates. Did Wonders for me.

I started by checking out DVD's from the library to see what I would like. Pilates work great for me. With Winsor Pilates, all you need is a mat. Some use exercise tools. I do them at 5:00 in the morning, so simple is better.

I use the Firm Ab Sculpt and really like it, but I haven't stuck with it long enough and with enough frequency to know about the 6-pack thing.  It definitely gets your abs in shape though.  Didn't do it for about a month after Katrina and the first time doing it I felt like I was dying.   It's really good for abs and lower back, too.

I did also like Winsor Pilates when I did it.   Didn't like the Winsor chick personally, but the workouts were very good.

I've got a library of core-related DVDs and Core Max is the best one hands down. You'll need a stability ball and medicine ball.

I really like Gaiam's Beginning Pilates Mat workout. I can really feel it strengthening my core, in ways that crunches and other Ab workout videos never did. Its a nice, deep soreness, that wraps all the way around to the low back.
