Pre-race routine:

The hotel didn't start breakfast until 6 and the bagel place was still closed so I had a cliff bar and Gatorade. I was starving by mile 8.
Event warmup:

Sat in the car and shivered. Talked to Aaron.

Comments:

It was a fun run. Tons of people to watch.

Aaron (JeepFleeb) ran the first 3 or so miles with me. The company was nice. The first three miles were all under 10 min. each. Then he was warmed up and it was time for him to take off.

I was a little lost then, I kept trying to find someone to follow but I didn't like their pace. At mile 3 or so we were passed by a guy running with a triple wide stroller with three toddlers and he had a case of beer on the bottom! Later around mile 6 or so I was passed by a guy pushing a double wide stroller (no beer).

I only had two hammergels and I tried to make them last. I stopped to go the bathroom at the half way point and probably lost a few mintues.

I tried to start out slow, I didn't feel like I was breathing hard even though the pace was a little faster than what I train at. Mile 6 felt really slow. The downhill piece around mile 9 or so I felt like I was flying - downhill is nice!
What would you do differently?:

I would have liked to have had a better breakfast, but on the other hand my stomach was fine the whole time, so maybe it was good I didn't eat much. By mile 11-12 I was starving!

I didn't have my watch with me - now I wish I would have pushed it to finish under 2 hours. Skipped the bathroom break would probably have done it for me.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around the football field, had a banana and water. Got an awesome leg massage!

Event comments:

Very organized, lots of volunteers and food. Free massage! And plenty of buses to bring you back to the start line.

Great race.  This puts in you in a good spot for Shamrock in March.   You should do well there in March.  Congratulations.

Great job! Bathroom breaks always take too much time in a race! Its always "if I hadn't had to go to the bathroom...."

Isn't Aaron a great pacer? Lucky you!

Congrats! Sounds like you did well! The first time is always tough - how to pace, how to pace. When you do your next one....

Nice race. That is a great result. I can't believe that it was only your 1st.

It sounds like you learned some things during this race too.

Good luck on your upcoming mary.

Jen
