I had a reasonable case of plantar fasciitis on one foot and since have not run since the summer. I want to start running again and have decent shoes with supports, stretch better and roll a golf ball with my foot. Do people think wearing two pairs of socks would also add extra comfort and help? Thanks.

I ran the chicago marathon with PF and 2 pair of socks, I don't remember being comforatable at all....

I always run with 2 pair of socks, I don't think it would help with PF...if you haven't run since the summer you should be okay. Just don't up the mileage too quick...

Ditto here, I do my long runs with two pair for additional cushioning and blister protection, but I don't see how it would help PF. Proper support and proper stretching would, though.

I agree with the Bear. I had PF and have bouts of it from time to time. I FINALLY figured out how to prevent it ( I hope ). I got good supportive running shoes with a really supportive heel, and I stretch my calves after every workout especially a run. If I am running and I feel even a twinge of pain I stop and stretch. Since I have been doing this I have not had any problems. I seriously doubt two pairs of socks will help much.

I just got over a seven month bout of PF. I have never heard of wearing two pairs of socks. Stretch, ice after runs with some motrin will do wonders. I am leaning towards getting orthotics. Good luck.

Night split will normally help a bunch.

Mine did in only a week or so of every night use...use it off and on now.

No problems and no return of PF.

I think coolmax makes a two ply running sock as well - I forget how much they are, but they are oh so comfortable as any rubbing occurs between the two layers and greatly minimizes any chafing or blistering.

Of course - the only blister I got was after a 25K despite the super socks - learned all about moleskin that week and blister pads.

Here is a link to a great site that may offer you some tips on how to treat your condition.

Notice how the people in the picture are barefoot, Being barefoot is a good thing, strengthens your feet.

I would get PF from time to time, until started doing a simple stretch I read about: making a "fist" with my feet and then stretching the other way, especially if planned to run immediately after getting up.

As others have said, I'm not sure two pairs of socks will help out.
