Subject: Kona Lottery - who is applying?

Got an e-mail today that the Kona lottery is now open.  Just wondering who is going to apply.  I am no where near ready.  So who is going to go for the chance?

It costs $35 to enter the lottery and $50 for the Passport membership to increase your chances?!? More power to them, but WTC sure does take everyone opportunity they can to pull in a buck, don't they?

Think my odds are better in this lottery than in the Powerball lottery?

At least I'll get an offical looking rejection letter is I don't win Kona's.

I'd love to enter the lottery, and of course win a spot but I am already doing IM CDA and there is just no way I can afford to go to 2 IMs in one year financially.  It costs a lot of money to prep, register, and travel for 1 IM, I just can't add a trip out to Kona, registration, and all the other costs involved with that.

I really wish there was a way to have the lottery before you have to commit to that year's set of IM races.  That would mean having the lottery for Kona 2007 before IM AZ 2006 which is 1 -1/2 years before.  I don't think that is going to happen.

Someday I'll have to try and just rack up the credit cards.  Just thinking about racing in Kona sends shivers down my spine!!!

A year ago I figured I'd start entering the lottery this year but I've kind of changed my perspective.  I still want to go to Kona but I'm determined to do it the hard way.  I might not be fast enough right now but if I can just hold steady for 20 years I know I can whoop some 50 year olds

Forgive a newbie, but does it work this way:  If you qualify this summer at another race you go to Kona in 2007 but if you win a lottery slot you go in '06?

When is the lottery drawing?  Is there a link to info about this?

I intend on applying - if my number comes up I'll take a 3 month sabbatical - hey I can dream can't I.

But I think I'll keep trying with the Powerball also - with a 100+ mill - one shouldn't have to scrimp too had for an auction slot.

This link is to a story about the lottery. Link at the bottom to go to Active.com to register for the lottery.  Deadline for entry is Feb 28.  They take a month and a half to determine the best stories   do the random drawing and announce lottery winners on April 15.

I didn't get a pair of IM sox last year, just a cheap-ass cool IM ID card.

If you win the lottery this year (March or April?) you go to Kona 2006.  If you were to qualify at any of the North American IMs this year you also go to Kona 2006 - with the exception of IM Florida as it is held in November you go the following year (2007).

To register for a North America IM you basically need to do that the previous year as they sell out in a matter of hours (generally).
