I was going to do my first 1/2 IM at Peterborough but I head it was tough. I think the Ottawa 1/2 IM is too easy.

Anyone know of a relatively easy 1/2 IM in Ontario? (ie. not a lot of huge hills)

I have done the Peterborough race several times. it is not too tough.  Go ahead and sign up.  We can make plans to meet up on that day.  It will be fun.

How tough is not too tough. I guess it's all relative. I've only done 1 1/2 Marathon and my longest open water swim has been 1K. I'm doing 2000m continuously in the pool in about 40 minutes. My 1/2 Marathon time is 2:15 - 2:20. I'm slow as an elephant.

How hilly is the bike course. I just want to make the cut off....

Thanks for any info you can give me !

Ottawa is the easiest one...completely flat.  But if that is too easy then I don't know....Peterborough is kinda hilly.

K-Town Tri long course is not quite a half IM  but has a challenging enough swim and bike course...maybe a good warm up to a harder half

Thanks Jen!

I have to check with my SO, but I think I'll try Peterborough and if I DNF then I can try Ottawa. I like races that are big with lost of people and there doesn't seem to be alot of competitors at Ottawa.

I looked into Steelhead in Michigan and that looks cool. I like the fact that the swim is parellel to the shore and not too deep. I hate swimming way out into the middle of a big lake.

All I can think of for 1/2 IM races in Ontario is Peterborough, Ottawa and Parry Sound. I was going to do Muskoka but it conflicts with a local race so I have signed up for the Steelhead. I'm near Windsor so it is closer for me. I checked the results for the last couple of years and the times for the Steelhead are significantly faster than for Peterborough.

Does Muskoka interfere with Leamington Tomatoman.  It does for me.

Yup, Leamington and Muskoka clash. Leamington is only 15 minutes away so I always support that race.

I'm doing my first 1/2 IM in Peterborough as well. (I have family there seemed like a good place to start). Then looking at ramping up to the real deal in Ottawa as it is only an hour away for me in Cornwall. I have studied the route and it seems o.k. The bike course is hilly apparently. Maybe I'll see ya there

The Ottawa 1/2IM is indeed a flat course, hence "easy" as you have pointed out.  However, the distance between the transition area and the cycling start/end line is about 1/2 a kilometer, which adds a bit to the time and the energy output.

How many people are usually in the Ottawa 1/2 IM. I like to have lots of competitors to hide in amoungst....especially since I think I'll be at the back of the pack!

Is the event well run?
