Hey all! I thought I would start a lil' thread so we could see if we are going to try to meet in person - or continue this online relationship :P

I'm curious to know what pace you all signed up for. I signed up for I think a 10m pace and my fiance signed up for 7+m pace.. clearly we will not be running together! haha.. I'm hoping for more of a 9m pace but we shall see. I've never run more than 6 miles so I'm nervous about being able to do the whole race.

What is your pre race routine for this week? any runs planned? any meal ideas for the night before?

Well hope you are all excited about the race (and the EXPO!!).

I'll be there but I won't be setting any land speed records. This bug I've had has totally upset my training and motivation but I am going to do this run regardless. My long runs have been in the 9-10 minute range so I'll probably stick with that pace for the GAR. It sounds like we will be able to run together if you'd like the company. We should definitely meet before the race. I haven't signed up yet. I'll do that at the expo.

If you've never participated in the race before you'll need to make some plans regarding how you'll get there and where you'll park. They close off a lot of the streets downtown to motor traffic so navigation can be difficult. I'll pobably park my car at my workplace and then ride my mountain bike to the race start and park it inside Harbor Court or at Aloha Tower.

I'm meeting up with msgatita and we're driving somewhere. I signed up to take a shuttle from the end to the start? Wasn't sure what the best plan was...Is it true that the first mile is pretty much at a walking pace? I'm hoping for a 9m/m..but I'll likely take it easy for the first half just to ensure that I can finish it! Company would be greatly appreciated!

Do you have a meeting place suggestion?

It use to be easy for me because my good friend was the property manager for one of the big buildings across the street from Aloha Tower. He'd give me cool parking and we'd go upstairs and look down on everyone prior to the start. He's since moved to a building in Waikiki so that option may be out.

If you manage to get somewhere near the front the 1st mile can be run at your normal pace. If you line up near the back it will take you a while to even get to the start. I like to start near the front but I'll do whatever.

As far as a meeting place, I'm not really sure. I'll PM you my cellular # and we can connect that morning.

don't forget pick up race packets either 17,18 or 19 Feb at the GAR Expo / Blaisdale.  I'll probably ride with friends from Leeward side and park at Hickam AFB or the stadium at O'dark thirty, then city bus / shuttle to the Aloha Tower  / Marketplace.   I signed up for hopeful finish under 72".  8 to 9" pace.  From the attached GAR doc, I'm not sure where we'll be actually lining up, as there are over 20,000 runners...........  So, best place to meet would probably be like in front of Hooters at the Aloha Marketplace say 6am or in the stadium after the race, just before awards at say midfield.   Ideas??

I am defintly going to try to meet up with y`all. As I explained before, my hubby is pushing our kids in the jogger for the whole run, so we will be busy getting them organized and stuff. But, we will try to be at Hooters at 6am. We need to explain what we are all wearing:- I will NOT be the girl in the Hooters shirt!!!!!!

Sweet! 6am *gag* it is! Gotta get Kat/msgatita and co. up early!

Question for people who are runners (I don't think I can claim that yet...) - between now and the race should I be doing any short/light runs? Can I lift legs on Friday?.. I don't want to do anything that could possibly interfere w/ running the whole way, but I hate getting out of my routine too..silly I know, but just checking!?

my plan now is, run every other day. So, I will have Saturday off, Friday I will do about 25min, sunday about 10-15min. I have quite a few friends doing the GAR, and so I~m having a 'Carb loading party' at my house on Sunday. I`ll be interested in seeing who falls for the beer, I will be doing some strong self control, but I will keep reminding myself that the following day I have to run the furtherist I have ever gone in my life.
As far as weights, I`ve cut out my leg workout this week, last thing I want to be is sore to run 8.2 miles. I am going to walk the water stations and hydrate, and then push the last 2 miles as hard as I feel comfortable.
Looks like I will be wearing black running pants and black sports top, Under Amor stuff, I could possibly change my mind at the last minute. O, and a white nike hat.

Yeah, I think that I am going to do about a 4 miler tomorrow, and then Saturday morning before paddling I'll do approximately 15 minutes of running. I still might lift on Friday, but go easy on my weights. that gives me a couple days to recover.

I have no idea what I'm wearing...most likely a tank and shorts, and my ipod.. I can't imagine running that long w/o some motivational tunes!

We're doing a pasta-carbo load the night before too.. beer is for after! - although I have to hop on a plane at 5:30 the next morning! ack!

Looking forward to it!!

Ahhh I miss the  Great Aloha Run! I ran it 3 years in a row when I was stationed out there. Great race. That was my wife's first race also, we still laugh about her cussing me out when we got to Aloha Stadium and she found out she has to around the whole thing to the finishing tunnel. Good Luck to all of you!

Hey guys how was it!?!!

I wish I could have met you'll before the race but we were running sooo late and I really, really needed to use the facilities!!

It's not the prettiest course but I loved how flat it was! I got stuck behind the green wave even though I had a yellow number, none of the greenies or pinkies would move out of the way! still, I had fun and now I know that I can run that far! Now I have my eyes set on the HNL marathon!!
