If I can find a place to live within an hour of Uxbridge, I'll likely be there from early Feb through May.  I may either bring a bike or buy one, so if there's group rides going on, I'm in.

I may have to stay through the end of June so I can do the UK Ironman 70.3

sebastien - 2006-06-16 2:02 PM Well! I don't get to loko at the forum often but another England based foreigner. I live in Nottingham but come from Avignon, (France for those who think Avignon is just a bridge somewhere). Next races, Trentham Classic in Stoke 02/07, Clumber Park Classic 23/08ish. All the best and we might see each other one of these days. Séb

Hi - I'm in South East London.  New to Tri and did first one (novice) at Eton (Timex Women's Only one) on July 4th.  Next one is London on August 1st.

Am after some advice please - swim is probably strongest discipline for me but I got a little freaked out with the people in the water near me so let them swim off, kept catching them up, stopping then doing an extra 50 odd metres to avoid them.  Any ideas on what I can do to over come this completely irrational fear?  I'm a very big strong girl so getting knocked around really isn't a problem (or rather shouldn't be a problem)!!

Hi there!

Congrats on doing your first tri!  I did Eton and London in my first year too.  They are both really exciting races cos of the spectators cheering you on. You'll love it!

Its really really common to get freaked out in the water.  So many people report getting panicked and losing their breath and being upset by the bun fight at the beginning.  I remember breaststroking most of the race cos I freaked out everytime I put my face in the water or got knocked.

My advice would be to find somewhere you can practice open water swimming to get used to people being around you.  If you can find a venue that a club uses and swim with the club (Thames Turbo/Serpentine) sorry my London geography isn't great!  Then you might be able to get some coaching on drafting - thats swimming on someones feet or hip.  And learning to roll over the legs of someone in your way.  Other than that just focus your mind on the buoy you are spotting.  Think of that only and the odd knock and jostle will just be in the background.

From memory of London although it had a pretty big wave of people was well spread out so you can swim in a quiter part.  And you can have a good look at where you place yourself at the start.  It bottlenecks and gets busy again at the turn at the buoy so be prepared.

Hope that helps!

Have a great race!

Look forward to reading your race report

Hi Clare
Back from hols (cycled up Ventoux befour 'le Tour') - competing in South Wales at the Gower Tri on Saturday - fab race, but swimming in the sea is always difficult for me...I feel so sea sick!!!

Hope preps going well for Vitruvian

HI there, wow I'm so jealous.  Got the chance to go out to Switzerland to watch the Tour but had to work Cry

How did the race go?  What have you got next?

Vitruvian training building up for 4 weeks before Team Relays and Taper.  Been really wet though.  Grabbed a nice day for cycling yesterday but spent longer than we should have done at a tea shop sitting in the sun!

I'm not sure tea shops are the best training for Vitruvian but it sounds a great race.
I'm off to South Wales for the Gower Tri this weekend - sprint, but a hard 'un!
Fingers crossed for sunny training weather for you

I'll add my name here as well.

Not new to BT, as I was hanging around here a lot in '04/05 but have been on a bit of a workout 'holiday' the last few years so am effectively starting all over again. Loads more Brits here than my original days when there just seemed like me and 1 or 2 others!

Based in N. Buckinghamshire and have done a few Big Cow tri's around the Milton Keynes area in the past, at Sprint level. Planning on getting back to do some pool events next year again.

Hi Bigpikle,

I'm in Milton Keynes so planning to do some of the Big Cow events next year, whereabouts are you based in Bucks?

I've done 3 local pool based sprints this year and have a 4th on Sunday maybe I'll see you at one next year?
