Subject: First Triathlon Bike Recommendations?
Hi,

I'd like to purchase my first triathlon bike and I'd like
some recommendations for bikes under USD$1000.00.

Any takers?

Thanks,

Andy

Have you considered a Road bike to use for Triathlons?  You'll have a lot more options and a bike you can use for more than just tri's.

Do you have a road bike now?
A set of 100 dollar aero bars would get you going.

And if you do consider a Road bike there are a dozen or more great bikes for under a grand.  I can't think of a single TT bike under a grand.  Don't think I've ever seen one either.

If you can find a last years model in your size, you should be able to find some. I've seen some 2005 QR Kilo's at $900. Also, on ebay are some QR Trueno's for $800. The Trueno would probably make a good first Tri bike. It has steeper than typical road bike geometry and slacker than typical tri bike geometry.

Also, there's the Mootbecane:

If you can come up with a little extra dough you can get A Felt S32 for ~$1,300 or maybe a little less if you can fing a closeout from last year. I was really close to picking one up myself until the voice of reason (read: best friend) convinced me it might be a better idea to pay off my car first....no fun at all.
