Comments:

Went out too fast - low 8's on first 10k. Really pushed last 3 miles and even walked a little. Race was meant as a training run, but I ran a little too hard. As usual, I am having problems with pace at the beginning of long races. PR compared to last year by 13 minutes, but not really a good race. I didn't stick with my plan of starting slow.
What would you do differently?:

Not go out so fast.

It's hard to stick with the plan when all that adrenaline is coursing through your body just tempting you to go out hard, especially if the first few miles seem "easier than expected". I know exactly what you mean about starting too fast for some longer runs.

Regardless, you had a very good race. Congrats on the huge PR!
